Meet The Manager

Zoë Hiscox is Home Manager at Fosse House.

‘I enjoy working with people in a fun and friendly environment where there is lots of laughter’ – Zoë Hiscox

The Home Manager runs all aspects of the home, taking care of the business side of things and ensuring their home provides a high standard of care. While each Manager brings their own flair to the role, they do all have some qualities in common, especially their leadership and organisational skills. The role is very varied, involving plenty of resident interaction alongside the more administrative work to keep the home running smoothly. Our Managers typically hold, or are working towards, a relevant qualification and have proven experience in caring for older people.

Deputy Home Manager

I have worked for Quantum Care for the last 3 years. Finding a career within Quantum Care was a complete accident as I had studied medicine for the previous 5 years. Since my very first care shift I instantly knew that caring was what I wanted to do! Caring has had a huge impact on my life and has shown me how rewarding a job can really be. Working at Fosse House has allowed me to make friends for life and shown me what compassionate and caring people there are and that I have the privilege of working with. Fosse House has allowed me to progress over a short period of time and I have an amazing support system in which has enabled me to do this and work to the best of my ability."

Administrator

I enjoy the variety in my job and the opportunities to spend time with the residents’ – Pat Haden

The Administrator will focus on the smooth running of the home; in whatever area they may be needed. From greeting visitors to recruiting, the Administrator is present in many aspects of life in the home, even if you don’t always see them! To be successful in the role, our Administrators have to be flexible and calm, able to multi-task and always keen to take on a new challenge. It’s often the Administrator that brings the IT skills to a home, helping them to keep everything organised. Above that though, Administrators are communicators, able to speak confidently and listen closely to everyone from Managers and Care Workers to visitors and residents.

Activity Care Worker

‘I enjoy knowing that I have helped to make our residents’ days more enjoyable, seeing them happy, content and relaxed’ – Julie Harmer

The Activity Care Worker is creative, outgoing, caring and enthusiastic, traits that serve them well in providing the varied activity programmes to stimulate and entertain their residents. Challenges are a fixture of the job but the rewards are undeniable as the Activity Care Worker gets to bring new experiences to the residents and plays a large part in creating the friendly, open and supportive environments that are so important to a happy home. Training is comprehensive, so with or without prior experience, the Activity Care Worker is more than able to keep their residents active and happy in a fun and friendly setting.

Care Team Manager

Care Team Managers lead our care teams from the front. Their primary focus is to maximise the quality of life for all their residents while also helping to maintain the day-to-day efficiency of the home. As a general rule, the Care Team Manager holds an NVQ Level 2 or similar and has practical experience in caring for older people. Above all else, the role requires two qualities: fantastic team work skills and a strong commitment to care.

The Importance Of Meal Times

Food isn’t only one of the greatest pleasures in life. It’s also vital to physical and mental wellbeing. That’s why Quantum Care places such an emphasis on the experience of eating.

As we specialise in caring for people living with dementia, we often have to change the presentation and style of our food so that it’s tempting and easy to access. For people who are unable to use a knife and fork, for instance, we might offer finger foods. When residents have difficulty swallowing, we can provide pureed meals. The important thing is that everybody enjoys the experience of eating, so we always ensure that everything we serve – in whatever form – is well presented and appetising.

All residents who come into our homes are assessed using the Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool (MUST) to ensure that they maintain a good nutritional status. Our catering teams work closely with care staff to plan menus according to these assessments. Those who are assessed as requiring fortification will have a specially designed nutrition and hydration programme.

All our meals are prepared using fresh ingredients from sustainable sources that are as local as possible. All of our kitchens produce a variety of menu choices every day and are experienced in meeting medical, ethnic and religious dietary needs. People with food allergies or intolerances are also catered for.
