Fairmile Grange - Care Home
Meet The Manager

Sherlyn Rowland is Home Manager at Fairmile Grange.

Sherlyn has worked in the healthcare sector in the UK since 1999.  She originally trained and worked as an Intensive Care Nurse in Malaysia. She was a nursing cadet at school and dreamed of becoming a nurse since she was 13.

Sherlyn is an experienced Care Home Manager and has managed care homes since 2006. Her passion for working with the elderly came from spending time with her grandparents during her childhood, and this was further developed when she had her first job in the UK in a nursing home in London.

Sherlyn says, “I feel very proud and privileged that I am living my dream of being a nurse and helping others every day.  My mission for Fairmile Grange is to deliver exceptional, person-centred care to residents and ensure high standards of support.  I am dedicated to making sure residents can live their lives to the fullest.”

Sherlyn Rowland

Fairmile Grange is a purpose-built care home with 80 bedrooms, offering residential, nursing and dementia care. Situated in the grounds of Christchurch Hospital, the home is well placed in terms of GP support from the Grove Surgery and the nearby pharmacy.

Autumna has invited care providers to evidence the infection control measures they are carrying out, above and beyond those laid out by the government, in order to keep residents, staff and visitors safe.

What we're doing to keep residents & visitors safe

We maintain diligent infection control and cleaning procedures across all of our homes. Staff follow the latest Government guidance to ensure we are adhering to the latest advice. Measures remain in place in our homes to keep our residents, staff and families as safe and supported as possible.

We continue to be committed to the safety of our residents, staff and visitors, and ask that visits are booked and that PPE is worn by all visitors.

Infection Control Initiatives in place
safe-tick Infection Control Training Our staff are trained to use measures which prevent and control infections.
safe-tick Virus Testing We are testing for viral infection when symptoms present within our care setting.
Safe Visiting Space
safe-tick We have a safe visiting space

We are conscious that despite the easing of restrictions, some visitors may still prefer to take precautions when visiting their loved ones.

During the pandemic we installed purpose-built Visiting Lounges, which are divided by a floor to ceiling screen and also benefit from an intercom system to ensure conversations can continue unhindered by the screen. We are very proud to have created a warm and comfortable place for visitors and residents alike to meet.

Connectivity for resident testing, monitoring & communications

Infection control and the safety of both residents and staff often requires quarantine measures and the isolation of care home residents. To test, monitor and allow residents to communicate with relatives, the prevalence of room-level connectivity within the home is becoming increasingly relevant.

Wireless Internet access (WiFi)

Yes, our care home has WiFi in all our resident’s rooms.

Mobile Phone Network Coverage (mobile “signal”)

Yes, our care home has mobile phone signal in all our resident’s rooms.

Telephone for external calling

The Care Organisation has not indicated availability

Social media provides an up to date window on the activities within a provider's setting.

With the restrictions on visiting during the pandemic, social media platforms such as these offer real insight when you are choosing a provider.

Our Building and Facilities

Environments full of light and space are health-giving. As such, the architecture of Fairmile Grange has been purposely designed with this in mind. Its grand French doors and large verandas bring an abundance of light to the communal rooms.

Each floor has its own beautifully fitted dining and kitchenette areas. Families can catch up over a cup of tea in the kitchen areas, or in the private dining rooms.

The home’s Pamper Room ensures residents feel like a million dollars. The living rooms include comfy chairs where residents can relax in company, or they can choose to sit in more snug areas of the home if they would prefer some quiet time.

The landscaped garden offers a beautiful and peaceful place to relax. The raised flower beds and vegetable patch are ideal for any green-fingered residents who would like to help to tend.

Activities Are So Important

No two days are the same at Fairmile Grange!

We have a dedicated Wellbeing Manager to create fantastic and engaging weekly programmes of activities. These include daily activities that our care staff get involved with and enjoy with you, as well as outside entertainers that we invite into the home; such as singers, dancers, musicians and aerobic movement instructors.

We listen to residents and learn about them so that we can find thoughtful and imaginative ways to connect with every person. Whether you are an animal-lover, a keen gardener, a musician, or you enjoy arts and crafts. Maybe there is a past hobby you would like to do again, such as painting? Or perhaps you simply take pleasure in a nice cup of tea and a good chat…

We are devoted to bringing a smile to your face every day, whatever it takes.
