Meet The Manager

Costel Bonghene is Home Manager at Elvy Court Care Home.

I am Costel Bonghene, the General Manager at Elvy Court Care Home. With over 14 years of experience in the healthcare sector, I bring a strong clinical foundation and a proven leadership track record across a range of care settings, including acute medical units, specialist care services, and elderly residential and nursing care.

Having joined Elvy Court in 2021, I’ve worked closely with our residents, families, and staff to ensure the highest standards of care and compliance are consistently met. I was proud to step into the role of General Manager in 2025, where I now lead a passionate team of over 70 dedicated professionals. Together, we are committed to delivering safe, personalised, and compassionate care that enhances quality of life and promotes dignity, independence, and wellbeing.

Our Proud Sittingbourne Care Home

Elvy Court Care Home enjoys a tranquil setting in a quiet residential area of Sittingbourne in Kent. It’s just a gentle walk to the bustling town centre and there are easy connections across Kent. Many of the staff have been part of the Elvy Court care team for over a decade and our home enjoys a long-standing reputation for welcoming and reassuring both residents and their loved ones. Couples and companions are warmly welcomed in our home where their well-being, comfort, and happiness are our top priority.

Those that live here will find around-the-clock, excellent care, companionship and compassion from a dedicated team of professionals. Everyone is treated with equal dignity and respect, and actively encouraged to maintain relationships and engage with social activities as much as they can.

All of the bedrooms at our nursing home in Sittingbourne are spacious and have an en-suite toilet and hand wash basin. Some ground floor rooms open out on to the garden. There are plenty of lounges where there is space to be sociable, join in with activities or just to be quiet in. Autumna has invited care providers to evidence the infection control measures they are carrying out, above and beyond those laid out by the government, in order to keep residents, staff and visitors safe.

What we're doing to keep residents & visitors safe

What we're doing to keep residents & visitors safe
We are confident that our care homes are now some of the very safest places to live and work.

All of our staff have been trained in additional and heightened cleansing protocols and hygiene regimes, and these are being supported by a leading sanitisation system as part of our comprehensive infection controls. Testing regimes will continue for staff, residents and visitors.

We have re-aligned the resident in-house services to meet social distance guidance from the Government, for areas such as lounges and dining rooms, and for visiting entertainers and hair dressers; we are working hard to restore these services within the ‘new normal’ circumstances as soon as we can, when lockdown rules allow.

Infection Control Initiatives in place
safe-tick Infection Control Training Our staff are trained to use measures which prevent and control infections.
safe-tick Sterilisation & Disinfection Devices We are using sterilisation and/or disinfection devices within our care setting.
safe-tick Virus Testing We are testing for viral infection when symptoms present within our care setting.
Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) - Regulator’s Assessment

Safe Visiting Space

Avery Healthcare has invested in outdoor garden ‘visitor pods’

The pods, are a garden room specifically designed to facilitate safe face-to-face contact with relatives and visitors. Each pod contains a floor to ceiling partition screen and a hands-free intercom so that communication is clear and safe for use. They are fitted with internal electrics and two, low-surface temperature electric panel heaters – suitable for these winter months.

Connectivity for resident testing, monitoring & communications

Infection control and the safety of both residents and staff often requires quarantine measures and the isolation of care home residents. To test, monitor and allow residents to communicate with relatives, the prevalence of room-level connectivity within the home is becoming increasingly relevant.

Activities Are So Important

We find trips down Memory Lane fun for the staff and stimulating for the residents and staff. Local Kent history is always fascinating and brings the generations closer together. Reminiscing is often educational for us and invigorating for the residents, sparking off conversations. And talking of sparks, we are avid readers of the Daily Sparkle, the reminiscence magazine devised for nursing homes such as ours, to get people talking.

Our Dreamboats and Petticoats evening also got the residents moving – if not on the dance floor then getting with it in their chairs. Our approach is holistic, that is we care for mind and body, keeping brains and bones active, and our energetic Activity Coordinators enjoy devising a fun programme that will have something for everyone. Our residents also enjoy clambering aboard the minibus, getting out and about across Kent and finding new places to visit.

Elvy Court Nursing Home has established strong ties with local schools and associations who play a valuable role in ensuring residents remain part of the wider community. We fundraise for local Sittingbourne charities.

Like every young person today, we are up to speed with screens and make use of iPads and the internet both as resources and as a means of fostering good communications. Our Facebook pages keep family and friends in the loop and encourage them to come along and join in with whatever is going on. The more the merrier!
