Respite Care Yes

Autumna has invited care providers to evidence the infection control measures they are carrying out, above and beyond those laid out by the government, in order to keep residents, staff and visitors safe.

What we're doing to keep residents & visitors safe

We take safety for both residents and staff very seriously, and have a number of measures in place beyond the standard regulatory requirements:

1. Individualised risk assessments and care plans

  • Each resident has a personalised care plan developed on admission, which identifies their specific needs (including mobility, cognitive changes, health conditions) and associated risks (falls, infection, aggression, etc.). As the home’s website notes: “Each resident … is an individual with their own specific needs. We identify those needs and develop a care plan to ensure personalised professional and dignified care.”
  • We regularly review and update those assessments to reflect changes in residents’ condition (e.g., after a fall, a new diagnosis, increased frailty).
  • For staff, we carry out risk assessments of the environment and tasks (manual handling, equipment, lone working), to identify hazards and ensure controls are in place (training, safe equipment, correct staffing levels).

2. Training and competency of staff

  • All staff receive appropriate induction, on-going training in key areas: safeguarding adults, infection prevention & control, moving and handling, medication administration, emergency procedures (fire, evacuation). This aligns with best practice guidance that emphasises staff training in such areas.
  • We check competency and refresh training regularly, to make sure staff can respond to situations safely and confidently (for example, when residents’ needs become more complex).
  • We support a culture where staff feel able to raise concerns, take part in incident reviews, and learn from near-misses and events.

Connectivity for resident testing, monitoring & communications

Infection control and the safety of both residents and staff often requires quarantine measures and the isolation of care home residents. To test, monitor and allow residents to communicate with relatives, the prevalence of room-level connectivity within the home is becoming increasingly relevant.
