Meet The Manager

Natasha King is Home Manager at Martlet Manor.

I'm passionate about my role and the home. Before joining the team I’d worked in independent care homes for ten years. I wanted to stay in the care sector while developing my skills and career. Care UK really helps you to progress – I actually started as a senior care assistant but was offered a promotion to deputy manager. At the end of 2017, I was incredibly proud and happy to be offered the role of home manager.

I think my proudest moments at Care UK were being nominated for the Team Leader of the Year award in the Care UK Residential Care Services Awards, and then being promoted to my current role. I’m now really looking forward to continuing to make Heather View the best dementia care home in the area, delivering the best possible service.

All Care UK homes now have purpose-built internal or external visiting suites available which enable visits to take place from behind a sealed glass panel, using a sound system to assist with communication. Where Government guidance and local health teams allow, these suites make it possible to continue visiting even when we have a case of Covid-19 in the home.

Connectivity for resident testing, monitoring & communications

Infection control and the safety of both residents and staff often requires quarantine measures and the isolation of care home residents. To test, monitor and allow residents to communicate with relatives, the prevalence of room-level connectivity within the home is becoming increasingly relevant.

Sarah Barrett
Sarah Barrett
Deputy Manager

I’ve worked in care for nearly two decades. I started out as a care assistant, but have been in management roles for nearly ten years. I joined Care UK because I was keen to find a new challenge. I’d been hearing a lot about the company and I liked the look and feel of the home when I first looked around.

In my role it’s important to listen and support your team, residents and family members. You need to be proactive and think outside the box. I enjoy helping the team to progress in their careers while ensuring that they’re delivering the best quality care. Above all, I believe that Marlet Manor is going great things and has huge potential thanks to our brilliant, hard-working team.

Debbie Wheeler
Debbie Wheeler
Support Manager

I have previously worked for Care UK in the community services division, so I was aware of the company visions and felt that they reflect a lot of my own professional ideas.

I am qualified in leadership and management training as well as health and social care, and my previous experience managing care homes and working as a service branch manager for a domiciliary company has prepared me to be a good match as home manager.

You need to be a ‘Jack of all trades’ as the role is very varied and often requires quick problem solving skills. I am able to put myself in the shoes of a resident or relative and respond appropriately.

When I’m not working I enjoy taking my dog, Gracie, for her much anticipated walks in the countryside. I also enjoy spending time with my grandson and watching him grow up.

Suzi Hawes
Suzi Hawes
Customer Relations Manager

Although working in the care sector is new to me, I have a wealth of experience in customer service. I joined Care UK in 2021 after hearing about their great reputation and I felt that I had many transferrable skills from my time as cabin crew in British Airways.

I have a City and Guilds qualification in Introduction to Care. As Customer Relations Manager you are the first point of contact with families at a very difficult and stressful time. You need empathy and a caring attitude as well as being able to help with the practical side of things.

Joanna Lewis
Joanna Lewis
Lifestyle Coordinator

I joined Martlet Manor in October 2021 and was led to working at Care UK as I liked their emphasis on being resident focused. Before joining the company, I previously worked as a Care Assistant, and I qualified as a Lead Practitioner in September 2021.

To do well in this role you need lots of creativity and empathy. You also need to be spontaneous in being able to adapt to every resident’s individual needs. My favourite part of my job is when we are all together laughing at our exercises and seeing my residents’ smiles.

The best part of my job is knowing that I have enhanced my resident’s lives with joy and knowing I’m helping to create new memories to treasure and share with their families. Outside of work I like to listen to music and study courses of interest that enhance my job role.

Howard Doran

Head Chef

I decided to join Care UK because of the amazing opportunity to cook five-star quality food within the care industry. I previously worked as a head chef in another care home so I wanted to bring these skills to Martlet Manor. As a head chef you need to lead by a good example, always have a positive attitude, and have a real love of food and cooking your very best.

I love working in our kitchen and working as part of a team. It is a great place to learn and work on my own personal development for the home and the people we provide care for.

Toby Reed
Toby Reed
Maintenance Manager

By trade, I am a painter and decorator, landscaper and previously worked as an industrial and commercial cleaner. Before joining Care UK I worked in maintenance for another company. My favourite part about this role is working in different areas of the home and helping the people we provide care for with any odd jobs.

I enjoy bonding with a new team and look forward to developing my career at Martlet Manor. Outside of work, I am a keen rugby player and I love being outside with my wife and kids.
