Meet The Manager

Lindsay McCulloch is General Manager at Four Hills Care Home.

Hi, my name is Lindsay and I am the General Manager here at Four Hills.

I have worked in the care sector for 27 years, first as a Care Assistant before graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1997. I have worked in care homes for 21 years and, during that time, I worked my way up from Staff Nurse to Unit Manager to Clinical Services Manager to General Manager.

Before joining the team here at Four Hills, I worked as Head of Operational Quality covering Scotland, Wales and North West England for a large care provider.

I really enjoyed the role, but I missed the sense of community you experience when working in a care home and having a team around me.  I am looking forward to being part of an established team at Four Hills Care Home and using my knowledge and skills to support the team to build on the existing success of the home.

I look forward to welcoming you to our home!

Lindsay McCulloch

Four Hills is a modern, purpose-built care home in Glasgow, offering nursing care and residential support to older people. Our dedicated team of skilled and attentive staff are committed to satisfying each individual’s needs and ensuring the highest quality of care. Our stated aim is ‘to foster an atmosphere of care and support, which both enables and encourages residents to live as full, interesting and independent a lifestyle as possible’.

The home, situated at the heart of the Ruchill community, is split into four separate units, all with single bedrooms and en-suite bathrooms. There are shared lounges, many quiet areas and a small, self-contained flat available to visiting relatives. We’re lucky to have the best of both worlds – we’re just a stone’s throw away from the bustling West-end and the city centre, yet a half hour drive will take you to the bonny banks of Loch Lomond.

We welcome visitors at any time and are happy to offer helpful advice if we can, so please feel free to call us or to drop in.

What we're doing to keep residents & visitors safe

We are delighted that the majority of our residents, patients and staff have now been vaccinated. And we'll do everything we can to ensure that all new residents, patients and staff are vaccinated, where medically able to to, or are willing o be vaccinated before moving in or working in our homes and hospitals.

We also ensure that any new residents and patients coming into our homes and hospitals , whether from the local hospital or the community have been tested in advance and are negative for COVID-19.

We continue to have a robust supply chain of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) in place, and our staff are using this in accordance with the Government guidance. All of our staff, irrespective of their role will be wearing protective face masks at all times to ensure the safety of our residents and team.

We continue to implement our advanced cleaning practices, and have clear standards in the case of managing any confirmed or suspected cases.

All staff practise good hand and respiratory hygiene to prevent the spread of germs, and surfaces that are often touched are cleaned and disinfected frequently. We're proud to be the only care provider to win the RoSPA Health and Safety Award in both 2019 and 2020.

Connectivity for resident testing, monitoring & communications

Infection control and the safety of both residents and staff often requires quarantine measures and the isolation of care home residents. To test, monitor and allow residents to communicate with relatives, the prevalence of room-level connectivity within the home is becoming increasingly relevant.

The Importance Of Meal Times

Food and Nutrition at Four Hills

Food at Four Hills is the main topic of conversation at our Residents Forum and we try hard to meet everyone's preferences. We make a point of finding out what our residents likes and dislikes are and encourage residents to participate in our menu planning. Our experienced chefs choose ingredients that are both tasty and nutritious to make sure meals are both delicious and appealing.

Taking part in resident group activities is another area that our chefs take part in whether it is pizza making, cake decorating or fruit tasting sessions.

Dietary requirements

For residents that have difficulties in swallowing we modify the menu of the day so that is it a soft, palatable dish.  To support our chefs in producing these dishes, our hospitality and Chef Academy organises theory and practical workshops.  Working in partnership with Nutricia, our practical workshops involve all chefs and deputy managers learning about dysphagia and producing these modified menus. The chefs work with the chef trainer to prepare fork mashable and thick puree meals to the correct consistency, taste and presentation.  The deputy managers can then ensure all modified menus served are presented correctly for our residents.

Attracting top chefs

Our chefs are recruited on the basis of an interview with the regional hospitality support team and the manager for the home. Selection also involves a practical element where potential cooks are asked to cook for and meet a panel of people living in the home. Chefs take their job extremely seriously and our annual Chef competition sees our chefs battle it out in regional heats and then at a national final for the accolade of 'Barchester's Chef of the Year'.

Activities Are So Important

Our activity and lifestyle programme is arranged for all our residents to participate in and is updated regularly based on ideas from our residents group during our resident forum. Our Resident of the Day strategy ensures each person receives at least one day each month where the focus is all about them.

We have a monthly concert and to date this is appreciated and enjoyed by most residents. The Four Hills Taverns is open for business every Friday afternoon and is an area where residents and staff socialise, hold pub quizzes and partake in a little refreshment.

The team at Four Hills try hard to meet everyone's needs and encourage all residents and their families to join in the fun.
