Meet The Manager

Sarah Gray is Home Manager at Clarence Court Care Home.

A real home has as much personality as the people who live there. That’s why we’ve made Clarence Court a place you’d be proud of and happy to live in – just as you would your own home.

Our home is set across three floors, and there are communal lounges and dining rooms on each floor, as well as ample outdoor space, meaning peace and quiet is never far away.

We offer brighterkind care – a person-centred approach that is delivered through quality care, recreation and activities, and food and dining.

Connectivity for resident testing, monitoring & communications

Infection control and the safety of both residents and staff often requires quarantine measures and the isolation of care home residents. To test, monitor and allow residents to communicate with relatives, the prevalence of room-level connectivity within the home is becoming increasingly relevant.

Our Building and Facilities

Whether you’re entertaining your family and friends, spending time with other residents or taking part in activities, our living rooms are ideal. It’s always up to you whether you want to get involved with activities – you’re more than welcome to sit back, relax and enjoy the atmosphere.

Spread out across the home there are three communal lounges – one on each floor – and a large meeting room which residents use for family gatherings and special events.

Clarence Court is surrounded by mature plants, trees and a lovely garden. The rear garden is accessed via the ground floor dining room. There is a secure keypad lock meaning residents will always be safe and can relax when they’re outdoors.

There is also a patio with outdoor seating where we regularly serve afternoon tea when the weather is fine. The landscaped grounds are beautifully maintained and are a pleasure to walk around.

Description

Many of our rooms have recently been refurbished to the highest specifications with new furniture, soft furnishings and fittings. We have designed the rooms with your comfort in mind. Your bedroom furniture consists of: an appropriate bed suitable to your needs, wardrobe, bedside table with lockable drawer, armchair and other furniture suitable to the size of the room. Your bed linen and towels are provided by the home.

All the rooms are en-suite and there are bath and shower rooms on each floor for residents to use with or without assistance.

We understand that moving into Clarence Court will be a considerable transition, but one we try to make feel as easy as possible. Your room is your own personal space, which is why we encourage you to personalise it if you like, by hanging your favourite pictures or bringing small pieces of furniture.

Description

We’re a diverse group, from different backgrounds and with different roles, but we all have something fundamental in common – every single one of us is passionate about care.

It’s almost like a sixth sense: people who are always on hand to help, but with enough empathy to know when to leave you be; people who don’t have favourites, and who are always busy creating the little moments of kindness that make a real difference to life here.

As well as our team of carers and nurses, GPs visit the home on a regular basis. We also have local dentists, opticians, podiatrists and dietician who provide services to residents at the home. For those who fancy a little R&R, we have a hairdresser in the home once a week and a pampering service that visits once a month. And everyone gets stuck in together – whether to serve breakfast or help out with an activity.

The Importance Of Meal Times

At Clarence Court, we love our food. We firmly believe that when you eat well, you live well too. This is a core part of our Brighterkind philosophy of care, centring on good nutrition and the importance of mealtimes as a social occasion.

Each day our chef prepares restaurant-style meals combining variety with a balanced diet and an emphasis on locally sourced ingredients. And we can cater to any dietary or health requirements, however complex.

We have a dining room on each floor and meals are prepared by our Chef at the home. Our dining rooms always become hubs of conversation and laughter, and mealtimes give even our more frail residents a chance to come together and socialise. Whether it’s Fish and Chips Friday or our Event of the Month nights, we encourage our residents to make the most of living in a friendly environment. There will be plenty of people to meet, and a lot of stories to share.

Of course, when, where and who you eat with is entirely up to you. Friends and family can join you as often as you’d like (at a small charge) and our extras menu gives you the option to order snacks at any time of the day.

Activities Are So Important

A willingness to get involved and try new things is something we see time and again, once people are given the opportunity. We have a dedicated Recreation and Activities Coordinator who oversees everything, but all our staff regularly brainstorm new ideas, too. And our residents vote on their suggestions at our monthly activity meetings, so we can be sure everyone’s looking forward to something, every day.

Activities vary each week: from baking and gardening, to daily exercise and pet therapy. And everything’s flexible – if it’s sunny we try and get outside, so everyone can appreciate the best of the day. We’ve built excellent links to the community, allowing residents to continue their lives outside the home with ease.

We have a minibus that we use to take trips out to the Seagull Trust, Museum of Flight, and Royal Yacht Britannia. And a number of organisations and entertainers visit us here at the home, including the Gaelic Music Association, Common Wheel Music Therapy and PAT volunteers.
