Court House is a privately owned home in the heart of Cullompton, set in about an acre of grounds.

Our philosophy is ‘helping our residents enjoy life’. It underpins how we provide the care and support to our clients.

We normally offer permanent, respite and day care services however due to Covid-19, we have restricted this to permanent and longer respite stays. Court House can currently cater for 30 residents.

Safe Visiting Space
safe-tick We have a safe visiting space

We have a safe visiting space within a conservatory that has a floor to ceiling screen. Family members enter via the path from the car park and residents enter through the coffee shop. This was built and completed by early September 2020 in response to Covid-19 and has been really well received by families.

Connectivity for resident testing, monitoring & communications

Infection control and the safety of both residents and staff often requires quarantine measures and the isolation of care home residents. To test, monitor and allow residents to communicate with relatives, the prevalence of room-level connectivity within the home is becoming increasingly relevant.

Yes, our care home has WiFi in all our resident’s rooms.

Mobile Phone Network Coverage (mobile “signal”)

Our care home has mobile phone signal in some of our residents’ rooms.

Our Building and Facilities

The main house has 24 bedrooms, mostly single rooms with en-suite facilities, with the option of  twin bedded rooms for those couples who might prefer to share.

Downstairs:  16 bedrooms with ensuite facilities, of which 3 can be used as twin bedded rooms.

Upstairs:  8 bedrooms with ensuite facilities, of which 1 can be used as twin bedded room.

All rooms have a secure lockable cupboard for the residents own use, and suitable furniture should they not wish to bring their own.

Social Rooms: There are two lounges, and a dining room and a relaxed ‘coffee club’ with comfortable seating and a dining area. Residents are encouraged to use these public rooms; however, residents who choose to stay in their own rooms are free to do so.

Conservatory: This has been created recently and currently acts as a safe visiting space with a floor to ceiling screen.

The Cottage:
The Cottage is designed to accommodate individuals with a desire to live in a smaller group, who may wish to live in a style closer to their previous home life. Residents of the cottage can receive the same level of support as in the main house; however, it is hoped that they will feel able to be fully involved in the daily routines of the cottage.

There are two suites on the ground floor each with their own private lounges, bedrooms, kitchenettes and wet rooms. Upstairs there are four large bedrooms with their own ensuite wet rooms.

In addition, there are shared spaces including a large lounge, dining room / conservatory. A shared kitchen and laundry facilities are available where residents are supported in managing their daily lives. The cottage also boasts its own secure garden even though residents of the cottage are still able to enjoy the benefits of the grounds of the main house.

Our Photos

The original part of the building dates back to the lat 19th century with an extension added to this in the 1980s. It served as the 'Court House' to the town and one of our bedrooms was, in fact, the old courtroom with original panelling. Rooms in this part of the house vary in size and have some of the slightly older, 'quirky' features. The rooms that were added in the 1980s and our most recent extension are more standard in shape and features. Some of the downstairs rooms have their own access to a small private garden area or lovely views of the front or back garden. All rooms are en-suite. There are two 'flats' in the Cottage that have their own lounge area, small kitchenette, and bedroom.

The Importance Of Meal Times

Our menus are always changing, but this is a sample to give you an idea.

We have regular meetings with the residents to get feedback on the menus and to make sure we include new ideas as well as old favourites. There are always choices offered for all meals including vegetarian options and we will meet any special dietary requirements.

The dining room is cottagey in style and is in the centre of the home. It has its own delightful courtyard garden in which to soak up the warmth of the Devon sun.

Activities Are So Important

There is always something going on at Court House. Many of our residents have found ways to re-kindle old hobbies, sometimes with the help of care staff or family, others have discovered interests with their new friends at Court House.

Whilst we offer a wide variety of activities on a daily basis, it is, of course entirely up to individual residents which activities they wish to participate in. Our regular activities include fitness sessions, art workshops and music therapy. Court House also brings in entertainments and activities from outside; from regular visits from the Devon Library service, the Donkey Sanctuary, comedians, musicians amongst many others.
