Joanne Eaton is Home Manager at Montfort Manor.

The team and I consider it a huge privilege to care for older people and are proud that their families trust us to care for them.

At Montfort Manor every thought has been given to residents' health, safety and wellbeing. The home is divided into small suites to enable residents - particularly those who are living with dementia - to make friends and feel calm and secure in a homelike environment.

Montfort Manor has its own inviting café – complete with fresh cakes baked by our chef-led kitchen team – plus a luxurious cinema, a bar, and a hair and beauty salon. There's something to do whatever the weather, and our Lifestyle team plans daily activities. Residents are encouraged to socialise within small, socially distanced groups so they can do as much or as little as they wish: they can lead an activity, help around the home or simply relax in the comfort of their bedroom.

Our very own Windmill café is a great place to catch up with friends over a hot drink and a tasty cake. Hair and pamper sessions are always popular in the salon too, and our regular film afternoons are well attended in the cinema room. Our stringent cleaning protocols ensure high traffic areas in the home are disinfected on a regular basis, and there are hand sanitising stations located throughout the home.

I started here at Montfort Manor in July 2020 in the middle of a very challenging time due to the coronavirus pandemic, but what a way to learn in the deep end! I was attracted to Montfort Manor as I felt that their ideals of care were in line with my own care belief. I want my relatives to be looked after the way I want to be looked after. Before my role as customer relations manager I have worked for a call centre, worked for a bespoke medical bed company and was a Personal Independence Co-ordinator for Age UK. I believe that a customer relations manager is a listening ear and someone to empathise with what both the family and loved one are going through. My mother in law had early onset dementia at the age of 56 and she was in a home for nearly 10 years. And my grandmother was in a home after her care needs became too much for us as a family for seven years.

I’m an experienced care home head chef, and I’ve also worked as a Chef de Partie at the Ashford International Hotel. I joined the Montfort Manor team in September 2019 because I was excited about working in a brand new home with big ideas, where the team is determined to deliver the best possible care.

I love using food to ensure residents feel great and look forward to every meal. It’s fantastic to see people enjoying the dishes we’ve created for them. I’m passionate about listening to residents’ feedback so that I can continue to adapt the food we serve to provide them with meals that make them happy. I’m always looking to improve.

I’ve worked in care home settings for over 12 years. I wanted to join Care UK because it has strong values, which echo my own. I joined the Montfort Manor team in September 2019 and I’m over the moon to be working with such a great team of people. We’re all working towards the same goals.

I love those moments when you can spend quality time with the residents, when you can get to know them like you would members of your own family. Everyone who works at Montford Manor has the residents at heart. Whatever role we do here, each of us is focused on ensuring that residents receive the quality care they need and deserve.
