Yvonne Burutsa is General Manager at Shawside Care Village.
I am a Registered General Nurse with additional qualifications in Strategic Management. With over 20 years of dedicated experience in the Healthcare sector, I've spent the last 13 years managing care homes, gaining valuable insights into the intricacies of providing exceptional care. During the past 5 years, I've also successfully navigated the challenges of overseeing multiple sites within the care home setting.
My commitment to excellence has been recognized through the Nurse of the Year award, a testament to my passion for uplifting the standards of care in care homes. I believe in a collaborative approach, working closely with residents, their families, and the multidisciplinary team to ensure a holistic and person-centered approach to care.
Situated in the tranquil Oldham suburb of Shaw is the friendly care village of Shaw Side.
Our Christian values and the way in which we value and embrace cultural diversity underpin everything we do. Our person-centred care plans are designed to provide bespoke tailored care on an individual basis. By taking into account our residents’ wants and needs, we’re able to make their residency a celebration of their life.
Our care system confronts a broad range of concerns with focus not only on longevity of life, but on improving the quality of life. Every person has a unique gift to share with us and we only get to benefit from that gift if we accommodate their desired lifestyle. Care is the end of a journey, it’s the start of a new chapter. We put dignity, warmth and well-being at the forefront of everything we do and that’s what makes our home so special.

Connectivity for resident testing, monitoring & communications |

Infection control and the safety of both residents and staff often requires quarantine measures and the isolation of care home residents. To test, monitor and allow residents to communicate with relatives, the prevalence of room-level connectivity within the home is becoming increasingly relevant. Our Building and Facilities |
---|
The village is comprised of 5 purpose-built houses designed to offer the best in specialist dementia, residential and nursing care. The interior is designed with the needs of dementia care in mind and is also perfect for handling more general residential requirements such as palliative, convalescence, and respite provision. The beauty is echoed outside where our wonderful, landscaped gardens provide a haven to the native wildlife with mature trees and raised flowerbeds. Our residents love spending time either out in the garden, or simply enjoying the views from the summer house. We like to keep residents involved in the day-to-day social aspects of the community, but we also provide beautiful bedrooms and a spacious shared lounge area to relax in. |

Activities Are So Important |
---|
We run a weekly programme of events, which includes everything from talks and demonstrations from local talent to the singing and dancing of our local performers. Our home is a central part of the community, which is reflected by the regular visits we get from local volunteers. They’ll often drop by just for a chat and cup of tea with our residents. We’ve worked hard to formulate a year-long programme of hobbies including everything from baking, writing, gardening and dancing, to painting, quizzing or even chess competitions. But not everything needs to be about excitement. We understand that for many people, simple daily tasks like a morning walk, or taking the chance to feed the birds, lay the table or even distribute post, is where they find their enjoyment. And of course, we want to ensure that our residents who value time to themselves are able to indulge in some quality me time. Our personalised activities are based around your preferences and we want to work with you to create the perfect bespoke activity plan. |
