Autumna has invited care providers to evidence the infection control measures they are carrying out, above and beyond those laid out by the government, in order to keep residents, staff and visitors safe.

What we're doing to keep residents & visitors safe

Since the early stages of the pandemic, our teams have been working to a pandemic plan which is updated regularly to reflect any changes to either UK or Scottish government guidance. This plan includes a range of measures aimed at both reducing the likelihood of new Covid-19 infections and reducing the spread of infections where they occur.

Infection Control Initiatives in place
safe-tick Air Filtration & Purification We are using air filtration and/or air purification devices within our care setting.
safe-tick Independent Assessments We have been independently assessed in our approach to infection control.
safe-tick Infection Control Training Our staff are trained to use measures which prevent and control infections.
safe-tick Infection Screening We are using technology to screen for infections & monitor symptoms.
safe-tick Regulatory Assessment We have been assessed by the care regulator in our approach to infection control.
safe-tick Sterilisation & Disinfection Devices We are using sterilisation and/or disinfection devices within our care setting.
Safe Visiting Space
safe-tick We have a safe visiting space

All Care UK homes now have purpose-built internal or external visiting suites available which enable visits to take place from behind a sealed glass panel, using a sound system to assist with communication. Where Government guidance and local health teams allow, these suites make it possible to continue visiting even when we have a case of Covid-19 in the home.

Connectivity for resident testing, monitoring & communications

Infection control and the safety of both residents and staff often requires quarantine measures and the isolation of care home residents. To test, monitor and allow residents to communicate with relatives, the prevalence of room-level connectivity within the home is becoming increasingly relevant.

Wireless Internet access (WiFi)

Yes, our care home has WiFi in all our resident’s rooms.

Mobile Phone Network Coverage (mobile “signal”)

Yes, our care home has mobile phone signal in all our resident’s rooms.

Telephone for external calling

Yes, our care home provides a telephone in all our resident’s rooms.

Social media provides an up to date window on the activities within a provider's setting.

With the restrictions on visiting during the pandemic, social media platforms such as these offer real insight when you are choosing a provider.

Deputy Manager

My passion lies with older people's care and I am always happy to help. In 2009 I became a carer at my previous nursing home, and in 2011 I qualified as a General Nurse and was then promoted to a Clinical Lead in 2016 and a Deputy Manager in 2018. I thrive off the team's ethos and seeing happy residents. Please feel free to ask me anything, I am always happy to help.

Natasha Phillips
Natasha Phillips
Home Admissions Advisor

I'm Natasha but everybody calls me Tasha, and I am the Home Admissions Adviser here. For the past three years I have been the home's Activities Coordinator which has given me such joy. My passion is working with older people, it is such a rewarding job that I take great pride in. It has been lovely to see our community grow in the last few years and I am so proud of the team that I work with, it really is a family environment here.

Laura Lloyd
Laura Lloyd
Activities Coordinator

I’m an experienced Activities Coordinator and I worked in a dementia care home prior to joining the team here at Edgbaston Manor.

I adore everything about my job and my aim each day is to ensure every resident has a smile and enjoys varied, fun and rewarding activities. Communication, flexibility and choice are central to that. This is the residents’ home, so if they fancy doing something different to what’s planned, I’m always led by them. I always give them options and they’re free to choose.

I believe it’s also important to be constantly improving what I do. I'm always looking at new things we can try at Edgbaston Manor. Everything is done with residents' and relatives' feedback and input.

Memory Care Lead

My passion lies in helping people and I love a good challenge. Working with individuals living with dementia is very rewarding and I enjoy every day as each day is always different. I have been working in care since 2015 and here since 2018. I started as a Carer and then went on to qualify in Principles in Dementia Care Lvl 3 which provided me with the knowledge to take on my current role as Memory Care Lead.

Business Administrator

I have worked in the profession of Business Administrator for over 4 years now and it brings me nothing but joy. I love that my job is all about making people smile, laugh and creating wonderful memories for the residents.

In this environment you become one big family, which is another reason why I love my job. Seeing a residents’ face after something you’ve done for them or with them is like a warm hug in winter and who doesn’t need one of those?

Carl Cooper

Head Chef

I started out working in care just over ten years' ago as a Kitchen Assistant, I worked my way up to becoming Head Chef within my first three years of working there. It was not just my job - I was going to every day, and it was like going to my 2nd family. The experience and opportunities that were given to me has helped me achieve the role I have today. I am so happy to now be working here and my colleagues and residents are amazing. I live in West Bromwich with my family and, in my spare time, my youngest daughter and I bake for the older people who live on our estate, a place that we have known for over 20 years.

Esme Nancarrow
Esme Nancarrow
Head Housekeeper

I have been with the home since 2019, and took over as Head Housekeeper in 2021. For me the most important aspect of my role is creating a clean and safe environment for residents, upholding the highest standards every day. It is vital that residents, families and colleagues have a bright and fresh place to be at all times, and that each resident is given a tailored service to suit their personal preferences, whether this be the time their housekeeping is completed, the way their trousers are pressed, or the type of fragrance used within their rooms.

Anne

Resident Ambassador

I have lived here since July 2017 and the team here are just wonderful, day and night. Nothing is too much trouble and everything is done with attention to detail. The team have great communication with my family and they can all visit whenever they like which is always so lovely. The cleanliness of the home is to perfection and I cannot praise enough. The team attend to every need and I am very happy to call this my home.

Gerry

Resident Ambassador

I have lived here since July 2018 - it is an excellent home and I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. The staff here are grand and I have made some great friends here. They all keep us busy with tasks to do and all of the eating of good food throughout the day too. My family are happy because I am happy. Anything I ask for or I want is always an easy task. Living here really is like living with a big family.
