Meet The Manager

Sharon Morgan is Home Manager at Scarlet House.

Why did I want to join Care UK? The organisation’s ethos of care - ‘Fulfilling lives’ - and its values really chimed with my own approach and vision of care. Care UK has a great reputation for delivering high quality care and it really values its colleagues.

My favourite part of the day is first thing. I love walking around the home soon after I arrive and chatting to everyone and getting to know them better. It’s when you really know the people you’re caring for that you can find ways to enhance their quality of life. And when you know your team well you understand their strengths, and how you can support them to develop.

I’m enjoying immersing myself in new challenges at Scarlet House and I’m looking forward to working with the team to deliver even better care and fulfilling lives to residents.

Where Government guidance and local health teams allow, these suites make it possible to continue visiting even when we have a case of Covid-19 in the home.

Connectivity for resident testing, monitoring & communications

Infection control and the safety of both residents and staff often requires quarantine measures and the isolation of care home residents. To test, monitor and allow residents to communicate with relatives, the prevalence of room-level connectivity within the home is becoming increasingly relevant.

Charlotte Levin
Deputy Manager

I joined Care UK in 2017, initially at the organisation’s Ambleside care home in Stratford Upon Avon, before moving to Highmarket house care home in Banbury where I progressed to Deputy Manager level.

I’ve always worked in the care sector – before joining the Ambleside team I worked in domiciliary care. I love working for Care UK because the organisation is growing and there are always new challenges and opportunities to get involved in. Care UK has a strong ethos of care and everyone at every level is passionate about delivering the highest standards of care.

The best part of what I do is seeing the residents and making a difference to their lives. Seeing them happy and smiling makes everything we do worthwhile. I also enjoy supporting colleagues to progress their careers and develop new skills. Care UK has enabled me to progress through its Future Home Manager programme, and I’m very proud of what I’ve achieved to date.

Katerina Pippi
Katerina Pippi
Customer Relations Manager

My background is in hospitality and retail management – I’ve worked everywhere from hotels and restaurants to castles and events venues. In these sectors, the focus on the customer experience is all-important, and I’ve been delighted to discover that the same is true at Care UK. It’s all about delivering superb customer care and service.

What I like about the organisation is that it cares about its colleagues too. I’d heard great things about Care UK as a great place to work, including its training and development opportunities.

Without a doubt, the best part of my day is chatting to the residents. It’s fantastic to learn about what they’ve experienced, and what they still want to achieve. I’m also enjoying developing the strong links that the home already has with the local community. I’m looking forward to supporting the Scarlet House team on its journey from ‘good to great’.

Lifestyle Lead

Before joining Scarlet House in 2018 I spent 26 years working with older people in the local area running the councils Community Alarm Service. However, my father had been a resident at Scarlet House, so, when I was made redundant, the manager suggested I apply to work here. I had a good feel for the home and the residents and I knew a number of the home team already.

Lunchtime is the best part of the day, with everyone buzzing and eager to get involved in activities. I myself really enjoy visiting historic houses, castles and gardens, so Im looking forward to doing as many outings as we can around our lovely area. I thrive on the interaction with the residents – learning more about them and finding ways to bring them meaningful experiences.

Head Chef

Becoming the head chef at Scarlet House has definitely been the highlight of my career to date. I enjoy talking to the residents, learning more about them and what they like, and getting their feedback about the menus we serve them.

When you’re a head chef you need to be able to listen and communicate well with other teams. Having good ideas and being able to plan effectively are also key skills that come in handy.

We produce up to 86 meals for each meal time, so there’s some pressure involved! I haven’t been at Scarlet House that long (since late 2018), so I’m slowly putting my mark on things. I’m starting to make little changes to the way we work in the kitchen so that everything can run as smoothly as possible.

Aleah Clutterbuck
Aleah Clutterbuck
Business Administrator

I joined Care UK because I wanted to make a difference to older people’s lives and help them to live each day to the full. I started as a hostess and moved across to the kitchen team to work as a catering assistant. I then became a receptionist and administrator, and now I’m a BA. I love how I’ve had every opportunity to try different roles and see what I enjoy the most. Care UK is great at supporting its colleagues to learn and develop.

As Business Administrator, I need to be efficient, organised and approachable. This role combines lots of different tasks and demands different skills. Given that I’ve worked in a number of different roles, I’ve had a steep learning curve to navigate a lot of the time. It’s important to be positive about learning, and to admit when you don’t understand something. The Scarlet House team is really supportive and helpful. There’s always someone who can advise and lend a hand.

Maintenance Manager

The pandemic led to some big changes in many people’s lives, and I decided to join Scarlet House when I was furloughed from a previous role. My wife works here, and it sounded like a fantastic place to work. I was ready for a new challenge too. Starting a new role in a care home during a pandemic, things were going to be challenging, but I haven’t looked back.

I’ve always been a handy person, with an ability to solve problems and get things done. I enjoy the satisfaction of completing tasks and, here, I can do that and enhance the residents’ lives. I used to deliver beer for a local brewery, and I ran my own business for 30 years installing and running coffee vending machines. I enjoyed being out and about and meeting new people.

Working in a care home is an extremely rewarding job. Even though I’m not involved in people’s care, I can ensure they have a meaningful chat and a laugh – a sense of humour is important.

Merle McArdle

Registered General Nurse and Infection Prevention and Control Champion

I’m passionate about keeping residents and colleagues safe. In this role I train colleagues in IPC and I undertake regular audits to ensure we’re keeping to the stringent standards we set ourselves. I also help to run the dementia suite at Scarlet House, and I support on other suites whenever I’m needed. Alongside my IPC responsibilities I help with pre-admission assessments, medication management and completing and updating residents’ care plans.

I aim to be patient and understanding with every person I work with, or support. A smile goes a long way, and I enjoy building a strong rapport with residents and colleagues alike. The whole team here works hard and supports each other to deliver the best care to residents.
