Meet The Manager

Alison Parry is Home Manager at Millers Grange.

I have three decades’ experience of working in the care home sector, and 17 of those have been as a Registered Manager for care companies of all sizes. This is the first time I’ve worked for Care UK, and I was keen to join the organisation because its commitment to quality care and its ethos of care match my own. I’m passionate about enabling residents to enjoy rewarding and meaningful lives.

I love the hustle and bustle of mid-morning, when residents are up and involved in activities and are chatting together. It’s refreshing to leave the office to talk to my team and residents. I enjoy finding ways to engage residents in things that make them happy.

I’m excited to be leading a dynamic team in a new home. I have lots of ideas of ways to make Millers Grange one of Oxfordshire’s best care homes, and I’m looking forward to making them happen.

Millers Grange is in the historic town of Witney in Oxfordshire, on the edge of the beautiful Cotswolds. We’re forging strong links with the local community and planning all sorts of outings – to the shops, cafes and pubs of Witney, Burford and the surrounding villages, as well as to Oxford, Cheltenham and the world-famous Blenheim Palace.

We are here to support you and your loved one through your journey into care and are able to offer a limited number of appointments for in-person show rounds of our care home. Call to speak to one of our friendly team who can take you through a short health screening questionnaire and book you in for a tour. Autumna has invited care providers to evidence the infection control measures they are carrying out, above and beyond those laid out by the government, in order to keep residents, staff and visitors safe.

Infection Control Initiatives in place
safe-tick Contact Tracing We have measures in place to identify and trace contact between people in our care setting.
safe-tick Infection Control Training Our staff are trained to use measures which prevent and control infections.
safe-tick Infection Screening We are using technology to screen for infections & monitor symptoms.
safe-tick Sterilisation & Disinfection Devices We are using sterilisation and/or disinfection devices within our care setting.
safe-tick Virus Testing We are testing for viral infection when symptoms present within our care setting.
Safe Visiting Space
safe-tick We have a safe visiting space

All Care UK homes now have purpose-built internal or external visiting suites available which enable visits to take place from behind a sealed glass panel, using a sound system to assist with communication. Where Government guidance and local health teams allow, these suites make it possible to continue visiting even when we have a case of Covid-19 in the home.

Connectivity for resident testing, monitoring & communications

Infection control and the safety of both residents and staff often requires quarantine measures and the isolation of care home residents. To test, monitor and allow residents to communicate with relatives, the prevalence of room-level connectivity within the home is becoming increasingly relevant.

Wireless Internet access (WiFi)

Yes, our care home has WiFi in all our resident’s rooms.

Mobile Phone Network Coverage (mobile “signal”)

Yes, our care home has mobile phone signal in all our resident’s rooms.

Telephone for external calling

Yes, our care home provides a telephone in all our resident’s rooms.

Deputy Manager

Before joining Care UK I was a Deputy Nursing Manager. When Millers Grange opened I was interested in joining the team. It was a new home and a fresh challenge. As the home’s Deputy Manager I support the team and the Home Manager and meet the residents’ needs to the best of my ability.

The morning is my favourite time of day, as I get to speak to the night team and find out what’s been happening. Feedback and teamwork are all-important as we strive to continuously improve what we do as a team at Millers Grange.

I also start to say good morning to the residents as they wake up, and I’ll spend some time planning the day with my team.

I love seeing the residents happy and hearing people laughing in lounges or corridors. That creates a lovely atmosphere, and I can’t ask for more if everyone’s happy – apart from maybe an ‘outstanding’ rating for the home at the next CQC inspection!

Mark Young

Customer Relations Manager

When I saw this opportunity come up at Millers Grange, I was keen to apply because I know Witney well and have spent ten years working in a similar role for another large care provider. I’d heard good things about Care UK and was keen to experience the organisation for myself.

This role is about listening to families and creating a tailor made solution for them at what can be a very difficult time for them. It’s important to have a friendly and compassionate personality, and adapt to the situation as everyone you meet has a different story. I enjoy supporting families through the journey of finding the right care home for their loved one.

I like to arrive early each day, just as residents are waking up. I take a walk around and say good morning to everyone and help to open the home up, ready for the day ahead. When you visit you might meet Ted, my rescue dog, who sometimes comes along to the home for the day. He always brings a smile to residents’ faces!

Head Chef

I have spent most of my working career in hotels, restaurants, and heritage sites, so this is my first venture into working in the care environment. This is whole new challenge to me and after speaking to various people within the company I was absolutely sold on the idea of providing great food, great hospitality and great care.

A massive thing for me is understanding and knowing what residents want, spending time with each individual and having the freedom to express myself.

With Care UK having over 100 sites I am determined for Millers Grange to stand out.

Outside of work I love my spending time with baby daughter, watching football and of course eating out at as many places possible.

Rhiannon Powell
Rhiannon Powell
Business Administrator

I joined the Millers Grange team in 2019 when the home first opened. I started out as Receptionist. I wanted to work where I had the potential to develop my skills and knowledge. I was also keen to work in a rewarding sector, and it doesn’t get much more rewarding than the care sector!

You need a combination of skills in this role, including good time management and a strict understanding of confidentiality and GDPR. It’s also important to be a good listener and have emotional intelligence, because there are lots of emotions involved when families are considering care for a loved one.

It was a huge highlight for me to become the home’s Business Administrator. It was an opportunity to grow my experience and skills and to be more involved in supporting new residents, their families and my colleagues.

Shaun Morgan

Maintenance

This role is very different from the one I had before when I was a cleaning machinery field service engineer covering the south of England and Wales. Now I’m in one place every day, and it makes a refreshing change.

I like the fact that every day is different at Millers Grange – I need to take a proactive and reactive approach to solve any issues and complete my tasks. My focus is always on keeping the care home safe for residents and colleagues.

Where I can, I enjoy supporting the team at lunchtimes on the dementia suite. I love spending time with the residents and hearing their stories. I’m quite a social person and I enjoy the fact that colleagues are encouraged to support residents to enjoy a fulfilling day, whatever role we do. Everyone’s involved, and everyone’s skills and input are valued, which makes it a great place to work.

Outside of work, I am an Army cadet instructor. I also assist with the Witney Angels Women’s Rugby team.

Activities Are So Important

Here in our Witney care home, we believe that life is for living – to the full. So when your loved one joins us at Millers Grange we work hard to find out all about their life history, interests and wishes, then we support them to live life in the way they wish.

Whether your loved one prefers one-to-one or small group activities, helping around the home or being in their own company, we will ensure that they enjoy a meaningful and fulfilling lifestyle.

Our Lifestyle team organises a weekly programme of activities, events, outings and entertainment, from live music to exercise sessions, film afternoons (complete with freshly popped corn), pamper sessions, knitting, reminiscence sessions, art classes and baking.

Nothing beats a good chat, and at 3pm each day colleagues ‘down tools’ to get together with residents for tea, cake and a catch up. ‘Boys’ lunches’ and ‘Ladies’ afternoon teas’ are also regular diary dates, all hosted by our senior managers.
