Meet The Manager

Natalie Smith is Home Manager at Birkin Lodge.

An elegant Edwardian home which has been recently refurbished to create a beautiful safe environment in keeping with the needs and wellbeing of our residents. Birkin Lodge Care Home is situated on an exclusive private road in Hawkenbury near Tunbridge Wells. Our home is located near to all the area’s amenities, including relaxing walks, shops, and just a short stroll from the train station. You’ll find us near to Dunlorlan Park which has its own boating lake.

Our bedrooms are all furnished to the highest brighterkind standard. Across our three floors we have communal lounges spread across the home,  dining rooms, a quiet lounge and a conservatory – meaning peace and quiet, or good conversation are never far away. Our Building and Facilities

Whether you’re entertaining your family and friends, spending time with other residents or taking part in activities, our living rooms are ideal. It’s always up to you whether you want to get involved with activities – you’re more than welcome to sit back, relax and enjoy the atmosphere.

Spread out across the home there are a number of communal lounges, all with flat-screen TVs. The Residential Lounge and Garden Lounge are both used for entertainment and there are daily activities held in these areas. One-to-one activities are usually held in the residents’ rooms.

Birkin Lodge is surrounded by beautiful landscaped gardens. To the front of the property there are some beautiful plants and mature trees, while to the rear there is a large lawn, surrounded by trees, with pathways and seating areas.

Our colourful patio has a large awning, ideal for sitting outside in the summer. It’s where we regularly serve afternoon tea, and meals when the weather is fine. The landscaped grounds are beautifully maintained and are a pleasure to walk around. In the summer we hold many activities outdoors, including garden parties and barbeques.

Description

We’re a diverse group, from different backgrounds and with different roles, but we all have something fundamental in common – every single one of us is passionate about care.

From our Home Manager, Natalie Smith, Deputy Manager, and the care team to our chefs and receptionists, we are always on hand to help, but with enough empathy to know when to leave you be. We're people who don’t have favourites, and who are always busy creating the little moments of kindness that make a real difference to life here.

Care Homes no longer work on 'staff ratios'. brighterkind homes take pride in providing a higher level of personalised care for all our residents and have in place a suitably qualified, competent and skilled team to meet people’s care and treatment needs. Your Home Manager will discuss the level of care you require before you move in. The level of care offered may be adjusted if your care needs change

The Importance Of Meal Times

We firmly believe that when you eat well, you live well too. This is a core part of our brighterkind philosophy of care, centering on good nutrition and the importance of mealtimes as a social occasion.

Our dining room is always set to restaurant standards, so residents need worry about nothing but enjoying the food.

Each day our chefs prepare restaurant-style meals combining variety with a balanced diet and an emphasis on locally sourced ingredients. We’re proud to say our Head Chef was chosen to represent brighterkind in the NACC Care Cook of the Year awards. Our residents get involved in helping to plan our menus, too.

The dining room is a hub of conversation and laughter, giving even our more frail residents a chance to come together and socialise. Whether it’s a barbeque or tea and scones out on the patio, we encourage our residents to make the most of living in an active and friendly environment.

Of course, when, where and who you eat with is entirely up to you. Friends and family can join you as often as you’d like (at a small charge), and our extras menu gives you the option to order snacks at any time of the day.
