Meet The Manager

Andrew Selwood is Interim Manager at Bethany House.

Andrew joins Pilgrims’ Friend on an interim basis, having predominantly developed nursing homes and care homes as a peripatetic manager. He brings a wealth of experience with over 33 years in senior management. Andrew has Chartered Manager status level 5, along with a Health & Social Care level five accreditation.

Andrew lives in the beautiful town of Matlock, overlooking the Heights of Abraham and Riber Castle, a 19th-century country house in the heart of Derbyshire. Out of work, he attends his local church in Chesterfield and enjoys walking with his faithful companion Marley, a black Labrador. He is a keen reader of the Scriptures and novels, especially those with a plot twist.

Andrew says, “The ‘family members’ [those who live with us], visitors and staff have welcomed me with open arms – the prayers and well-wishers have been deeply appreciated. The spiritual journey of the home is especially cherished. God’s love is felt every day, for all at Bethany House.”

Activities Are So Important

Our activities team arrange a varied programme, which may include music, films, pampering, crafts, board games, exercise etc. We welcome visitors for events such as piano recitals, music, drama entertainment and clothing parties. Special events are also organised to celebrate seasonal or national occasions. Regular meetings encourage feedback and suggestions about activities provided.

We often have a visiting scheme with a local nursery, where children come and undertake craft activities and games with those who live here. Both age groups seem to enjoy and benefit from his shared time.

Trips out are arranged, especially during the summer months, to various places of interest. Local shops are within a short distance for active family members to walk to and we have a dedicated hairdresser who visits once a week.

Everyone is welcome to participate in regular Christian devotions, undertaken by visiting speakers or friends of Bethany House. Communion is available weekly and you may ask your own minister to visit and receive communion privately if you prefer. Our pastoral team arranges groups and meetings with a variety of activities, which can include prayer, singing, Bible study, discussion and spiritual reflection. There are also visits from churches, local schools and student groups from time to time, such as at Christmas, Easter and Harvest.
