Meet The Manager

Gaynor Rhead is General Manager at Wellington Vale Care Home.

What I do: My name is Gaynor Rhead, the General Manager at Wellington Vale. I have overarching responsibility for the whole home. I am the person responsible for CQC, Safeguarding and other legislative bodies. My role is multifaceted and no two days are ever the same, this is what I love about my job.

My Experience: I have been in healthcare for nearly 34 years after dreaming of being a Nurse. My Mum was a care home nurse, from an early age I spent lots of time within care homes spending time with the residents. I always loved working in the older person sector of nursing but did a few years within ITU, HDU, Coronary Care and Theatres. I began my care home management experience in 2007 and haven’t looked back since.

Jane Oliver
Jane Oliver
Head Chef

What I do:  My name is Jane Oliver. I am the Head Chef at Wellington Vale. I fell in love with cooking at a very young age. I believe it was my Nanny, an excellent cook, who's passed her talent and passion down to me. As my parents used to manage and work in a care home, I had a chance to spend a lot of my free time watching the cook prepare meals and make cakes for our residents. I found it very fascinating and exciting. I never wanted to do anything else since.

My Experience: I have loved being a chef for 38 years now! I have spent most of my career working in MOD establishments, mainly for the Royal Navy. I have enjoyed creating menus and cooking for some very important figures in the past, including The Queen, The Queen Mother and Princess Anne.

The Importance Of Meal Times

We wouldn’t call our food restaurant standard because we aim for something more personal. At Cinnamon we believe in delicious, home-cooked food, attentive service and understanding what each resident enjoys. Every meal we serve has to be something we’d be proud to present to our nearest and dearest at a special family gathering.

Our restaurant menu evolves with the changing seasons and tastes of our residents who help to plan each meal by offering our chefs feedback and ideas. From the quality of the fresh, locally sourced ingredients and nutritional balance to the attractive presentation, we’re there to listen and make sure that each meal feels like something special, not an afterthought.

Relax and enjoy yourself in our sociable residents’ dining rooms or take an active part preparing food in our life skill kitchens. Enjoy a healthy snack in the comfort of your en-suite room. Catch up with guests or fellow residents over a tasty treat in our comfortable lounges and cheery cafés. And if you’re hungry later on, there’s always a selection of fruit, snacks and hot and cold drinks to enjoy.

Activities Are So Important

Life is always fun at Wellington Vale. Residents can join in with a host of activities from popular ‘ZING!’ exercise sessions to our Nerf gun balloon firing range, which is not only fun but improves hand-eye co-ordination, cognitive reactions and physical dexterity. The sheer joy of the people playing is just the icing on the cake.

Having our own transport opens up opportunities for days out to local attractions. Whether it’s for a local pint down at The Falcon, fish and chips on our local sandy beach, a stroll around Portchester Castle or an afternoon sailing around Spinnaker Tower, every single outing – spontaneous or planned – is arranged to keep our residents feeling stimulated, connected and happy.

There are always friendly new faces at Wellington Vale and whether it’s a newborn great grandchild, a visiting church group or pop-ins from favourites pets, it all adds to our varied and vibrant home life.
