Wilma Angngasing is Interim Home Manager at Waterbeach Lodge.
Wilma has just joined the Waterbeach Lodge Team - we can't wait to introduce you to her properly.
Waterbeach Lodge is a stunning, purpose-built care home situated on the A10 Ely Road, less than 6 miles from Cambridge City Centre. The house enjoys views over the countryside and is set in six acres of beautifully landscaped gardens.
The original site was established in 1818 and became a Convent for Nuns of the Carmelite Order in the early 1900’s, remaining that way until the late 1970’s. Since then, the property has had various uses, but many of the original buildings were left derelict, resulting in the demolition and rebuilding of the main structure as the new Waterbeach Lodge, as it is seen today.
Located in the quiet village of Waterbeach, just a few miles north of the historic city of Cambridge, Waterbeach Lodge is a purpose-built residential care home known for its blend of modern facilities and a warm, "home-from-home" atmosphere.
Unlike traditional clinical settings, Waterbeach Lodge focuses on a "hotel-style" aesthetic, with the architecture and interior designed to be accessible, light and airy, with plenty of communal spaces where residents can meet and converse, partake in daily activities or simply enjoy the views of the wildlife that frequent the extensive grounds in which the care home stands. The top floor is now dedicated to dementia care, where the large, low-sill windows allow residents an elevated perspective of the grounds and the surrounding Cambridgeshire landscape.

Autumna has invited care providers to evidence the infection control measures they are carrying out, above and beyond those laid out by the government, in order to keep residents, staff and visitors safe.
| What we're doing to keep residents & visitors safe | ||
|---|---|---|
|
Staff and residents are the heart of our business. To protect them , all staff and residents have been offered (and in most cases received) the COVID-19 vaccination. Whilst the vaccine is one of the most effective ways to prevent severe illness from the disease, we continue our rigorous testing regime for coronavirus as this is the only way we can attempt to prevent the virus entering the home. As the vaccines efficacy is not 100%, the only true way to prevent infection is to avoid transmission as much as possible. Current guidance is to test staff three times a week (two lateral flow and one PCR) and residents every 28 days. In the event of a positive test, regardless of symptoms, the home will alert the local Health Protection Agency and their advice will be sought, generally during such times visiting will be restricted until we can be sure that the case is isolated. In the event of multiple cases identified, the home will be locked down and residents quarantined to their rooms to ensure that transmission is minimised. From the outset of the pandemic, we continue to have a robust supply chain of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) in place, and our staff are using this in accordance with the public health authority guidance. All of our staff continue to use full PPE throughout the building as per Government/PHE policy and we remain confident that our supplies are kept well stocked and all of our services have what they need. |

Infection control and the safety of both residents and staff often requires quarantine measures and the isolation of care home residents. To test, monitor and allow residents to communicate with relatives, the prevalence of room-level connectivity within the home is becoming increasingly relevant.
