Our Building and Facilities

The Elderly Mentally Frail wing is the latest part of the complex to have a full renovation. This entirely self contained care home has been designed for the very specific needs of those with the early stages of dementia.

The ground floor lounge combines an area for socialising and activity, with a specially designed kitchen area which is safe yet functional for residents to use, where those who wish can maintain their daily routines.

There is a separate seating area surrounding a fireplace for winter evenings, a picture window for garden views and a quiet library area.

Chairs are varying heights and designs to suit individual requirements. A large dining table encourages sociable meal times.

The enclosed and secure sensory garden is freely accessible to residents within the home. The contrasting footpath surface makes it easy for the residents to see the walkway. The garden has been designed for year-round use and interest - there is a seating area by the rose garden with areas for outdoor gardening and raised beds for vegetables and herbs. There is a water feature and birds are encouraged with feeders. An old fashioned post box adds an element of nostalgia.

A garden shelter contains all the tools residents need to enjoy gardening if they wish, and this extra outdoor space is an alternative activity area.

The onsite hair salon is open weekly, and in addition to the usual hairdressing services, provides a nail bar and chiropody centre. An old fashioned sweet shop is available for residents to buy from. Brightly coloured doors identify residents bedrooms. Corridor handrails are easy to see and use. Lighting is adjustable to suit the time of day and weather conditions, giving residents optimum conditions for daily routines.
