Autumna has invited care providers to evidence the infection control measures they are carrying out, above and beyond those laid out by the government, in order to keep residents, staff and visitors safe.

What we're doing to keep residents & visitors safe

The health, safety and well-being of residents, visitors and team members is paramount, and we can assure you that your priorities regarding safety, care, cleanliness, and enjoyment are ours too. We take this responsibility very seriously and as such, we have implemented robust infection control measures in line with Government and Public Health England and Public Health Wales advice to ensure the safety of everyone who lives and works within our homes. These measures include: Wearing PPE, Regular testing and temperature checking, Social distancing, Enhanced cleaning, COVID-19 training

We are pleased to report that NHS healthcare professionals are now vaccinating residents and team members at all of our homes.  We are keeping residents and relatives updated with our progress. The Covid-19 vaccination rollout programme is being driven by the local health boards in Wales and by GPs in England.  Timings vary from area to area, dependent on when NHS healthcare professionals receive a supply of vaccines and how many doses they receive in each delivery.   However, we are in regular contact with the health boards and our local GP surgeries for updates and are working closely with them to ensure everyone has the opportunity to be vaccinated safely and as soon as possible.  With two doses of the vaccine being needed for immunisation to be fully effective, we do not expect to make changes to the measures in place at our homes until after the second dose has been delivered.

Infection Control Initiatives in place

Connectivity for resident testing, monitoring & communications

Infection control and the safety of both residents and staff often requires quarantine measures and the isolation of care home residents. To test, monitor and allow residents to communicate with relatives, the prevalence of room-level connectivity within the home is becoming increasingly relevant.

The Importance Of Meal Times

Mealtimes are an important part of daily life at Hallmark Care Homes. We pride ourselves on the quality of our catering and the range of choice available to residents daily, with menus carefully designed with nutrition in mind. We promote individual wellbeing through a positive and enjoyable dining experience; every resident can eat in pleasant settings and we offer full support with eating and drinking if needed so they remain hydrated and well-nourished.

All our homes offer freshly cooked, appetising and nutritionally-balanced meals with a different seasonal choice available every day to ensure the highest level of nutrition for residents. Our professional chefs use fresh ingredients to prepare a range of delicious, wholesome meals in our kitchens, to be enjoyed throughout the day. Our care home catering teams consult with residents on a regular basis to ensure we understand their nutritional requirements and food preferences so residents can maintain a diet they enjoy.

Our expert chefs carefully plan four-weekly menu cycles, which are changed regularly, to ensure each resident enjoys a variety of delicious dishes every day of the week and promote the highest level of nutrition and hydration in our care homes.

The preferences of the residents are always taken into account, which means classic meals often feature alongside traditional regional cuisine on our menus. Our homes hold regular themed food days in addition to our normal menu to provide opportunities for the residents to be involved in the preparation of meals if they wish to do so.

In addition to the nutrition and diet of the residents, we also take into account their visitors. Our cafés allows visitors to enjoy freshly made cakes and biscuits alongside their family or friends, to help them feel relaxed during their visit.

We know how important mealtimes are to each individual resident and the teams in our care homes are committed to making them a sociable and enjoyable part of each day. Our nutrition policy for care homes is set to provide those staying with us with three square meals, to ensure nutrition and diet are never forgotten and they are given the opportunity to eat alongside fellow residents for a key point of socialisation throughout the day.

The day starts with a choice of cereals, toast, cooked or continental breakfast. At mid-morning, residents will be offered tea, coffee, and snacks such as homemade biscuits and cakes. A range of hot and cold dishes are on offer at lunchtime. This is often followed by an afternoon snack, homemade cakes, pastries, and fruit. In the evening, each resident can choose from a wide selection of hot and cold meals. Evening and night time snacks are also available.
