Margery Dino

At Longueville Court, we provide 24-hour nursing care for people with a range of complex needs. We have a dedicated unit for older people living with dementia who are in need of support. Alongside this, we have exceptional facilities to support younger people with physical disabilities, including cerebral palsy, Huntington’s, multiple sclerosis, acquired head injuries and palliative care. Our services can also be provided on a respite basis.

Our team of highly qualified and attentive staff are focused on the needs of each resident and use bespoke and regularly reviewed care plans. We are passionate about encouraging independence, dignity and choice for all residents and keep up the Barchester tradition of providing high quality hospitality, cooking and activities. Our activities coordinators work hard to build extensive activities programmes that include regular day trips and visiting entertainment for residents and their families to enjoy.

Head of Activities & Lifestyle

My Longueville Court life started in 1996 when the home first opened. I'm proud to say that I was one of the first carers to work on our fantastic Skylark unit.

After leaving Longueville Court to care for my new family, I returned to work in 2013 and took on a new role of the Activities Coordinator, which is now known as the Head of Activities & Lifestyle.

I challenge myself every day to provide the residents I support with a varied and interesting programme that engages them fully in the process. My ongoing aim is to produce life enhancing experiences for all by offering a programme that includes one-to-one sessions, musical experiences and group activities that encourage interaction with other residents.

I am proud to be part of a team that produces a fun and enjoyable programme that caters for every individual's needs and enhances every resident's time at Longueville Court.

The Importance Of Meal Times

Food and Nutrition at our home

At the heart of our meals are fresh, seasonal ingredients that are bursting with flavour. Our food is cooked to the highest standard and we take great care to cater to the dietary requirements of everyone living here at the home. Residents may even discover a new favourite food or enjoy an old favourite prepared in a new and exciting way. We actively encourage loved ones to attend our mealtimes so that they can get a taste of what we offer. Please see below for more details.

Dietary requirements

For residents that have difficulties in swallowing we modify the menu of the day so that is it a soft, palatable dish. To support our chefs in producing these dishes, our hospitality and Chef Academy organises theory and practical workshops. Working in partnership with Nutricia, our practical workshops involve all chefs and deputy managers learning about dysphagia and producing these modified menus. The chefs work with the chef trainer to prepare fork mashable and thick puree meals to the correct consistency, taste and presentation. The deputy managers can then ensure all modified menus served are presented correctly for our residents.

Attracting top chefs

Our chefs are recruited on the basis of an interview with the regional hospitality support team and the manager for the home. Selection also involves a practical element where potential cooks are asked to cook for and meet a panel of people living in the home. Chefs take their job extremely seriously and our annual Chef competition sees our chefs battle it out in regional heats and then at a national final for the accolade of 'Barchester's Chef of the Year'.

Activities Are So Important

Our activities coordinators are committed to organising a variety of activities that reflect the interests and capabilities for everybody we support ensuring a person centred approach.

The team have a flexible approach to our programme and we are constantly reviewing and updating our programmes to ensure we cater for everyone's needs and varied abilities.

The activities programme includes regular trips utilising the homes minibus, these include a number of destinations of local interest. We are particularly proud of the relationship we have built with Peterborough Sailability. This registered charity offers the opportunities to those with restricted mobility to enjoy the thrill of sailing on the open water and the sense of independence that brings in specially adapted boats.

Involvement in the local community is something that the whole team are very passionate about and we provide regular visits to a number of different facilities including local schools and churches. These activities also extend too visits from "Pat dogs" and local entertainers to aid in our ongoing quest to give each individual as much support and stimulation as they require.
