Rico Bustamante is The Home Manager at Holly Lodge Nursing Home.

Rico finished his Business Management degree in 2001 in the Philippines where he helped manage his family business. Rico has worked in the care sector since 2006, specifically with individuals living with dementia. He has now been working as a Manager for over 10 years and at Holly Lodge for 5.

Rico is very passionate about making a difference in the lives of our residents and likes to be positive in approaching challenges. His sincere care for residents, relatives and staff is felt by all. He ensures that the home delivers compassionate and high-quality care with a homely atmosphere. As a leader, he leads by example and supports the staff in maximising their strengths and potentials.

His passion, hard work and dedication have led the home to winning the 2019 Excellence and Innovation in Dementia Care Award at the national Caring UK awards.

Holly Lodge is a purpose-built care home, designed around the needs of the people we support and finished to a high standard. The home has been newly modernised, while retaining its renowned homely atmosphere. The refurbishments have introduced two luxury dining rooms, hair salon, cinema, gallery and the Holly Bush Pub.

Residents can enjoy plenty of bright and spacious communal areas inside, while the gardens are perfect for enjoying the country air.

  • Alongside our infection control procedures and weekly Covid-19 testing, all staff and visitors are having temperature checks upon entry to the home. While we are encouraging regular handwashing and sanitising along with ensuring a 2-meter distance is maintained between individuals wherever possible.
  • We are stringently following government Covid-19 guidance. Forest Care is also facilitating visits with loved ones and residents wherever possible to contribute to their holistic well-being.

The Home Manager

Rico finished his Business Management degree in 2001 in the Philippines where he helped manage his family business. Rico has worked in the care sector since 2006, specifically with individuals living with dementia. He has now been working as a Manager for over 10 years and at Holly Lodge for 5.

Administrator

Having gained her degree in Sociology and Social Policy, Carol worked as an administrator at a university in North England. Following a family move and career change, Carol began working as a Care Assistant. Her breadth of experience in the care sector and administrative background means Carol has quickly become a valued member of the Holly Lodge team.

As Administrator, Carol is responsible for the day-to-day administrative functioning of the home and supporting Rico. This involves a variety of tasks such as employment checks, enquiry handling, show rounds and admissions, to reassuring residents and relatives and dealing with their day-to-day requests

Weekend Home Administrator

Sandra graduated from university in Italy with a language degree, allowing her to secure a position as an International Conference Organiser for UNESCO. 20 years later, Sandra relocated to the UK, working as a freelance Translator in corporate environments, later becoming an Enquiry Officer in the Police Force.

Holly Lodge welcomed Sandra to the team in 2018 as our weekend administrator. Sandra quickly became a great advocate of the care provided at Holly Lodge along with the family atmosphere the home creates.

To provide the exemplary care our residents deserve, we intentionally hire more staff than the industry average. Having more staff means we can offer a more relaxed, stress free environment for our residents, where the staff have time to deliver person-centered care. Our care team are passionate about their jobs and the care team have completed additional specialised training in supporting those living with dementia.

We generally work on ratios of around 1:4 care staff per residents by day and 1:8 by night. However, these ratios do not include the home’s domestic, catering, laundry, activities and management staff

Our dedicated and experienced nursing team is responsible for managing the clinical care of our residents at Holly Lodge focusing on their holistic care, which includes their mental, physical and emotional wellbeing.

This involves administering medication, working with our home GP and supporting senior carers and carers to ensure residents receive person-centered care in accordance with their assessed needs and plans of care.

Bea is our talented Chef at Holly Lodge who ensures residents enjoy a varied menu focusing on the nutritional needs of our residents. Bea has over 10 years of experience working as Head Chef in the care sector.

Having joined the Holly Lodge team in 2015, Bea quickly made an impression on residents, relatives and staff. The food she cooks is appetising, nutritional and commended by all. She also regularly goes above and beyond for resident’s special occasions.

Activities Team

The activities team uses care plans and consider residents’ histories and hobbies to plan respectful activities that enhance lives, encourage socialisation and stimulate memories. This is an important part of our person-centered care.

Activities that are multi-sensory are proven to help those living with dementia by increasing concentration and communication, helping cognitive symptoms and social interactions while stimulating reminiscent therapy. Holly Lodge achieves this in a number of ways, some of which are cooking workshops, ‘Guess the scent’ games, culture days, along with arts and crafts.

Every team is integral to the running of our care home. We are fortunate to have a team of hard-working and compassionate individuals in housekeeping, which comprise of domestic and laundry. Not only do they help with the smooth running of the home, but they also contribute to the social and hospitality experience our residents enjoy.

Bernie is our Handyman who works very hard fixing things and making sure our home runs smoothly. This involves ensuring that any maintenance/repair works are carried out promptly and efficiently with minimum disturbance. Having started at Holly Lodge within the domestic team, Bernie has worked his up within Holly Lodge, being a hard working and valuable team player.

Jhony is our talented groundsman who continues to work very hard in making our outdoor spaces into enjoyable surroundings.

From maintaining our wild flowers, feeding the birds in the aviary and building new features in our gardens for our residents to explore, Jhony constantly brings news ideas to the outdoor spaces of the home.

Our activities team provide a full and varied activities programme for our residents, which are typically organised between 10am and 4pm each day. The activities team use care plans and individual residents’ histories and hobbies to plan respectful activities that enhance lives, encourage socialisation and stimulate memories. This is an important part of our person-centered care.

We respect our residents’ right to make choices and are happy to organise activities they tell us they would enjoy. And for those who are less able, we provide 1:1 activities. Residents are free to choose where and how they spend their time. This includes socialising as much (or as little) as they wish to.
