Bridie Hughes is Care Home Manager at Forest Dene Residential Care Home.
Forest Dene is located in a residential area of Wanstead, East London and is a short walk from Wanstead Hospital and the main High Street.
Our care home is close to several shops and eateries and is just two train stops from one of London’s main shopping hubs, the Stratford Shopping Station.
Our dedicated team provides a range of care and support for our residents, including residential care, dementia care and respite care.
Our care home has been designed with the usual comforts you’d expect such as welcoming lounges and dining areas, a specially created pub, beautiful gardens and cosy bedrooms, which provide a warm place for our residents to rest and relax.
However it’s the small personal touches and our friendly team, who care for our residents as if they were members of their own family, which make Forest Dene a true home from home.
We welcome visits from family and friends and have an open door policy, so whether loved ones like to pop in for a coffee or take part in an activity, we encourage them to become part of the community within our home.
We hold regular meetings for residents and relatives, enabling our residents and their loved ones to be directly involved in everyday life at Forest Dene.

The two lounge areas and television room are places for our residents to use as they wish, whether taking part in activities, catching up with friends and family or simply reading a good book. We have also created our own ‘Forest Dene Bar’ which complete with optics, is the perfect place for our residents to socialise over a game of dominoes or cards. Our dining rooms provide a welcoming atmosphere to enjoy delicious home-cooked meals in the company of others. The top-floor dining room features a secure balcony that overlooks our beautiful gardens, which feature seasonal potted plants and a peaceful seating area for residents to relax in the summer months. |

Our care team is on-hand 24 hours a day, every day of the year and staff are dedicated to delivering care with kindness. To ensure we continue to provide the best standards of care and support to our residents, we recruit and train only the best staff. Whilst they receive a variety of on-going training to ensure their skills remain up-to-date, along with an enhanced DBS check (formerly CRB), it is their dedication to our residents which makes them truly special. |
The Importance Of Meal Times |
---|
Our catering team prides themselves on preparing nutritious, seasonal home-cooked meals, along with mouth-watering home-baked cakes for afternoon tea. Residents help us to shape the menus and our catering team spends time with them to get feedback on the dishes and their likes and dislikes. They are also able to cater for a variety of dietary requirements. Breakfast includes a wide variety of choice from cereals and toast to a traditional cooked breakfast. Lunch and dinner times see a selection of sandwiches, homemade soups, salads, jacket potatoes and hot meals such as a Sunday roast with all the trimmings and favourites including fish and chips, cottage pie and a hearty casserole. There is also an array of snacks and refreshments available throughout the day for residents and their loved ones if they get a bit peckish. |

Activities Are So Important |
---|
We believe it is important that our residents spend their time as they choose, so have a dedicated activities person to support them to take part in interesting activities, rekindle old past times and try new things. We have a hairdressing salon and our residents also enjoy being pampered with manicures and hand massages. Regular activities on offer include everything from light exercise classes, dance sessions, bingo, sensory activities, animal therapy, baking, cake decorating, as well as live music entertainment. Our residents also have regular visits from local school children and church groups, as well as taking part in day trips to local parks, shopping and garden centre |
