Older Persons Shared Ownership (OPSO) is a government-backed scheme designed to help older adults get onto the property ladder by allowing them to buy a share of a home while paying rent on the remaining portion. Under OPSO, you can purchase between 10% and 75% of a property’s market value, with the exact initial share depending on the type of lease. Unlike standard shared ownership, OPSO limits ownership to a maximum of 75%, but once you reach this threshold, you no longer pay rent on the remaining share. 2.75% rent payable on remaining share.
