Meet The Manager

Christine Hutchinson is Home Manager at Dene Holm.

"I am the General Manager of two homes, Dene Holm in Northfleet and Edward Moore House in Gravesend. I have worked for the company for almost twenty years, having worked my up through the company from a carer at Edward Moore House, to senior carer, care coordinator, interim manager at Dene Holm and then finally since May 2016, general manager.

"I never thought this would be the career for me but since starting, I have never looked back or regretted the choices I have made. I love the fact that I get to have an input into making so many people’s lives that little bit more enjoyable.

"I pride myself on the fact that both the homes are very caring and homely and I am proud to be in the position I am."

Christine Hutchinson

Dene Holm has two distinct floors with capacity for 22 residents on the ground floor and 22 on first floor.

Whilst the actual level of personal care each resident receives will depend on their individual needs, our usual staffing levels on each shift are seven assuming that each is fully occupied, during the day are:

One experienced senior care staff who has achieved, or are working towards, their level 5 award in Health and Social Care and seven care assistants, either who have achieved their level 2 in Health and Social Care, or who have, or are working to achieve, a Care Certificate. During the night there are four care assistants working on each shift, plus one lead night care assistant working on each shift. Residents can choose whether to have a male or female carer for their personal care needs and where possible we will accommodate their wishes, however there may be times when a male carer is not available. In this case we will always ensure we let the resident know well in advance of their care being provided.

The home also has a dedicated social activities facilitator who organises internal and external activities for our residents to enjoy.

In addition, we have a general manager and a deputy manager who, together with the home administrator, comprise the home’s management team.

Activities Are So Important

Tidying up the allotment or getting stuck into a puzzle with a cup of tea, how you like to spend your day is your choice.

Our full-time activity coordinator works with residents to organise a varied and stimulating calendar of activities and events, as well as supporting residents to continue with their own hobbies and interests.

Daily activities vary but can include gentle exercise classes, games afternoons, crafts, flower arranging and reminiscence to name a few. Connected to the local commdunity, we have established some valuable relationships with local groups such as Brownies and school children, who often visit our residents.

When the weather is kind, our residents enjoy garden parties and barbecues, as well as taking trips to the coast and attending annual events such as the Herne Bay Air Show and Fort in the Forties, the local nostalgic festival.

Our visiting hours are unrestricted; thus, guests are welcome to drop in and join us for an activity or cup of tea, we believe this contributes to our welcoming family atmosphere.

If you like to explore the local area, Dene Holm has excellent transport links with a bus stop directly outside. Gravesend Town Centre is just over a mile away and there are several amenities including a leisure centre, library, doctor’s surgery and shops, within walking distance.

There is plenty to do in Gravesend for residents and their visitors including an evening at the Woodville Halls theatre or a day browsing the shops. There are ample bars, cafes and restaurants and Bluewater shopping centre, one of the largest in the UK, is just a short drive away.
