Meet The Manager

Suzanne Jenkinson is Operations Manager at Home Instead Stevenage and North Herts.

Hello I'm Suzanne

I am excited to be working with Home Instead through unprecedented times which in itself will be a challenge but rest assured, your high-quality service will carry on regardless.

I am very excited about joining Home Instead because I finally found two very passionate people Dave and Karen along with their passionate team that share my own values in delivering a quality care service. I have a wealth of knowledge and expertise when I started my career back in 2002 as a care worker I have never looked back because providing high-quality care is my passion for communication and transparency. I specialise in Person-Centred Dementia Care and End of Life Care.

I have been working in the health and social care sector for over 18 years. I live with my family in Fairfield Park just outside Hitchin.

Suzanne Jenkinson

As a family-owned business, the heart is at the core of all of our services. We want Home Instead Stevenage and North Hertfordshire to become your trusted companion for you and your loved ones. We tailor our care to match the needs of the Client with a personalised approach that enriches the lives of our clients by enabling them to engage in the things that make them happiest whether it’s walking the dog, going shopping or to the pub or having a cup of tea and a chat. We provide a wide range of services including companionship, home help, personal and dementia care services as well as specialised Alzheimer’s care. Visits last on average two hours and a minimum of an hour so that we are able to provide the quality attention and company that people value. We will do what we say we are going to do when we say we are going to! Our service can be open-ended or for a short period of time, perhaps to provide respite for Family Carers and Caring Friends.

The backbone of our service is our CAREGivers. Each is recruited carefully for their passion to help others. Our team are a varied group of well trained, experienced, helpful, reliable people, who love their job and have some fun while caring for our clients. We pride ourselves on their punctuality and the exceptional quality of care they provide. We match each client to a CAREGiver so that it will be the same person who will come at the right time on the right day to do just what you want. That’s how true companionship can start to build.

We are a small team and will remain so as we are all passionate about providing an "Outstanding" service that is closely connected with our Clients and CAREGivers.

We are quite a bit different for few key reasons:

1. The senior team will always make personal introductions of the CAREGiver to the client. We use our experience and judgement to 'match' client and caregiver. We aim to develop lasting, trusting relationships. This is possible if companies organise their services around the clients’ needs and in developing proper relationships.

2. We like to match CAREGivers with clients. In that regard, it is our policy to introduce clients to just one or two CAREGivers who will learn all about the specific likes, dislikes and unique preferences that are so important. This is a hallmark of Home Instead's service.

3. We do not allow CAREGivers near a client without having first secured four references, a DBS police check and them having undergone four full days of training and screening through our selection and induction process. Most for all, I look for CAREGivers I would confidently introduce to my own mum.

4. We do not wear uniforms which (as a non-medical provider), we think stigmatises and draws attention to the private relationship between CAREGiver and Client.

5. We are delighted and proud that our service has been inspected and rated at the top level as ‘Outstanding’ by the regulator CQC (The Care Quality Commission).

When we consult, we build a clear plan of support that will suit you. We will ask many questions to build and carefully document a detailed picture and bespoke plan of care. You may need to be especially patient with us as we go through this as we are keen to really understand our role and the specific nuances of services that may be required. From there we will then enrol you onto each of our care delivery systems which provide a robust method of managing, coordinating and communicating real-time. Once we have developed this plan of care together we would then set about looking to matching up the right CAREGivers from our portfolio of available CAREGivers. This may happen immediately, or it may take a little time. When we have that match, we would return to introduce the potential CAREGiver to check and ensure with you that the match is a good one and you have confidence in our choice and suitability.

When we work we simply charge £30 per hour which is charged by direct debit monthly. When we start a service we set it in motion for a minimum of 6 weeks to provide the very best opportunity for our new relationships and service to become embedded in long-established routines. The minimum call time we do is 1hr and in that time we will do pretty much anything to support; eg trip out in the car, shopping, cleaning, dressing, showering, walking the dog, making a meal, playing scrabble, etc etc. To enrol our clients there is one of cost of £150 for the consultation and enrolment process outlined above.

All of our costs are fully inclusive of VAT and there are no hidden extras.

If you choose us, I'm sure you will find us to be a professional and reliable service. We are honoured to have the opportunity to support and aim to gain your trust soon.

Flo Marsh
Flo Marsh
Emotional Welfare Officer

I joined the Home Instead not long ago. I really like people and didn’t fancy sitting in my bed at home all day so I used my special magic puppy eyes to convince Dave & Karen to hire me as their dedicated full time Emotional Welfare Officer. I love my job. I specialise in ensuring that the emotional well-being of our fantastic Caregivers is in top condition. I’m good at this; wherever they pop into the office I look at them with my big brown eyes to let them know they are unconditionally loved. I wag my tail enthusiastically so they can all see the power they have to create joy and happiness. I also snuggle up next to them so that they know they are wanted adored and safe at Home Instead. When I’m not at work I’m particularly interested in bones. At the moment, I’m learning new skills, but my current passion is chewing or shredding shoes, bags, papers, coats and anything else humans leave within my reach.

Recruitment Administrator

Hello, I am Karen, I have recently (Aug 2020) re-joined the team at Home instead having taken a break and developing my skills in administration.

I originally joined Home Instead back in 2017 as a Caregiver and then moved into the office as Administrator and then Caregiver supervisor.

I am passionate about Care and knowing what we do really does make a difference to people’s life’s helping them to stay at home as independently as is possible.

Miriam Robbins
Miriam Robbins
Scheduling Administrator

I am one of the newest in the office and I am a part time administrator, I am enjoying my new role, including learning the system, and meeting different CAREGivers as they visit the office.

I have worked in care in community for a lot of years (too many to mention) starting way back with a company which most people have heard of, Leonard cheshire, working with disabled children and adults. From there I did a lot of years with Goldsborough as a senior coordinator/ manager until they moved to Hatfield. I then had a part time care agency which I was made redundant from, so I took a year off and did nothing (and got very bored).

Owner and Director

I am thoroughly enjoying being back at work now that our two children are older and more independent. Dave and I made the decision to start our Home Instead business as we wanted to do something that really makes a difference to people’s lives in the communities of Hitchin, Letchworth, Stevenage and surrounding towns and villages. Every day we are providing high quality care to our clients which helps them to remain at home and be independent.  We match our CAREGivers very carefully to our clients which means they build lovely relationships and our clients and CAREGivers look forward to seeing each other every visit.  I cover quite a lot of the admins side of our operation and provide support and guidance for our CAREGivers.  I find the experience very rewarding and am very proud of the quality service that we are delivering.

Field care supervisor

My background is Graphic Design and I’ve worked for myself for many years. Been a very social northerner, I was fed up with working at home and conversing with my dogs! I needed a change of scenery and a new challenge. Home Instead have given me this and much more … I love working and caring for the clients, helping them lead their best life. The next step was to take the Field Care Supervisors Role. This still lets me enjoy time spent with clients and their families. But also, I will be supporting the caregivers in the Southern division. I’m settling into my new role with the fabulous support of the Home Instead team.

The Importance Of Meal Times

Home Instead Senior Care provides a range of supportive services, including the preparation of meals and encouraging a client to enjoy a healthy, balanced diet. Where Home Instead are involved, we can ensure that clients are eating properly and monitor any changes in health and wellbeing. Our latest campaign aims to help and assist families who are providing care for their loved ones themselves, to be aware of an older person’s risk of becoming malnourished. We have devised a workshop to educate families and relatives on the issue of malnourishment and what to do if you suspect someone is at risk.

The best way to ensure someone is eating a healthy balanced diet is to be there in person during mealtimes, however, we know that when families are caring for their parents or relatives, there isn’t always enough time in busy schedules to sit and enjoy every mealtime together.

We Can Prepare
All day snacks, Breakfast, Dinner, Lunch, Cold Meals, Hot Meals, Snacks.

Activities Are So Important

Exercise is not only a great way to watch our weight, strengthen our muscles, and maintain a strong heart, but also helps us keep mentally fit too.

Staying physically active also helps improve blood pressure, supports better bone and joint health, and long-term preservation of brain function.

It also helps improve your balance, which is a great way to help prevent falls.
