There are raised flower beds for those who like to do a spot of light gardening from their wheelchairs. The main dining room and lounge overlooks the pretty front garden, which is a haven for birds and wildlife.

The Importance Of Meal Times

At Sanctuary Care we recognise meal times have always been a focus for residents in our homes which is why we invest in fantastic chefs and catering staff who can deliver delicious, nutritious menus and create an enjoyable dining experience for our residents. Some of our residents enjoy getting involved in the preparation and serving of food! You can read more about this in our case studies.

Cooked or continental? Sandwiches or hot food? The choice is yours with residents being involved in creating seasonal nutritional menus from old favourites to trying something new…there’s also always freshly baked cakes to enjoy for afternoon tea.

Midnight snack? No problem, refreshments are available to residents throughout the day and evening if they get a little peckish.

We encourage meal-times where residents can eat together and socialise in a relaxing environment but understand that residents may wish to enjoy food when they and where choose to have it.

Our trained staff understand the importance of eating well and staying hydrated and supporting residents living with dementia to enjoy food in their environment – making food more visible through coloured crockery and more appealing whether it's pureed, finger foods or moulded.

Activities Are So Important

Just 100m from the home is the beachfront. Some of the bedrooms overlook the seafront, while others have huge bay windows giving panoramic views over Minehead, which is the largest town in West Somerset and the ‘Gateway to Exmoor’.

Residents enjoy taking trips to their favourite seaside café for an ice cream. The staff also organise visits to nearby Blenheim Gardens.

Annually there is a very special trip from The Winsor on West Somerset Railway. The team takes residents who are able on the steam train to Bishops Lydeard, where they enjoy a picnic and take in the sights along the way.

Soon there will be a Namaste room in the heart of the nursing home. Staff will be specially trained so that they can treat residents to relaxing head, hand and foot massages. The room will have soothing lighting, aromatic diffusers and vibrating heat pads for residents’ backs, creating the perfect sensory experience.

Outside The Winsor there is a raised decking area which is a pretty and tranquil place to sit during the warmer weather. There are raised flower beds for those who like to do a spot of light gardening from their wheelchairs. The main dining room and lounge overlooks the pretty front garden, which is a haven for birds and wildlife.

The team tailors activities to the residents’ very specialist needs. Family members and loved ones are embraced into the heart of the home and actively take part in activities and events.

Every week children from Cheeky Cherubs, a nursery and pre-school in Minehead come to the nursing home to spend time enjoying activities with the residents. Whether making cakes, creating insect-themed hats or celebrating the royal wedding, the time they spend here is very special and the residents really look forward to their visits.

Residents also love to take part in cheese and wine and cider evenings hosted at The Winsor, as well as indulging with the occasional chocolate fountain. The team also prepares fresh smoothies daily with our residents’ favourite fruits.
