Meet The Manager

Louise Nelson is Home Manager at The Abbeys.

I started my journey in care 20 years ago working for Sue Ryder whose values, and training inspired me to be a better carer. Having worked as a senior care worker in the community after having my children I moved into care management becoming a regional manager, gaining my first CQC inspection with all greens, before moving back into working in residential care.

I’m fully qualified with NVQ’s in health and social care and leadership and management, I trained with the NHS in clinical observation and in end-of-life care with BMBC hospice and enjoy constantly learning new ways in care.

“I treat every resident how I would want my own loved one cared for, nothing is ever too much, it’s one of the values our whole team lives and works by. Our home has a family feel, and its people bring it to life. I love being at The Abbeys each day I see people enjoying life, supported by our great team of carers.”

I joined the care sector because I love helping and supporting people, I enjoy listening to the experience and life stories they have and love sharing in the fun and laughter. The older generation is such an important part of the community and the home helps support families and keep them connected with their loved ones.

I like being involved in the fun and social activities for those living in our home, bringing out the bubbly side of people's personalities. We do lots of games, crafts, and pampering sessions where we can treat ourselves.

"The Abbeys is a great place to be, no day is the same and I leave feeling I have made a real difference to someone's life. The people are the heart of their home and to see them smile and enjoy the activities we run, makes me love working here."

The Importance Of Meal Times

Our kitchens offer delicious and nutritious meals and menus that cater to dietary requirements, prepared daily by our on-site chef. We create varied menus using fresh and seasonal ingredients. We regularly refresh our menus in consultation with the people living in our home, so that we are providing meals that are loved by everyone.

Outside of breakfast, lunch, and an evening meal each day, we also offer food from our 24-hour snack menu. This includes sandwiches, toasted tea cakes, crumpets, toast, biscuits, and cakes. We also have drinks available around the clock in the lounge with jugs of juices and water and a kitchenette that provides hot drinks.

Friends and family can also join us for meals for a small extra charge that is added towards our resident’s fund.

Activities Are So Important

We believe in creating a community and making sure every day offers different things to do. Our Activity Coordinator runs a great range of social and relaxing activities from art and crafts, bingo, pamper sessions, to quizzes and games that consider people's needs and interests, all to create meaningful experiences that enrich lives.

We run feature events within the homes with entertainers and musicians for our people to sit back and enjoy. We also run day trips for our people to enjoy the sights and sounds of the local area and further afield.

We hope our residents will take full advantage of these fun experiences and if they would like to maintain a hobby or interest, we are more than happy to accommodate.
