Meet The Manager

Carol Dyke is The Home Manager at Southlands Residential Care Home.

At the helm is State Registered Nurse, Carol Dyke, who has been a nurse for more than three decades. She’s been at Southlands for 21 years and is well-beloved by her team, our residents and Carol oversees five senior carers, our team of carers, cooks, housekeepers and an activities coordinator. Many hold NVQ Level 2 and 3 qualifications, and all have undertaken the specialist Care Certificate.

We know how valuable good staff are so we work hard to retain our best and most dedicated people by treating them fairly, recognising and rewarding great work, helping them continue their professional education and providing them with a career path they can be proud of and stimulated by.

In addition, we employ handymen and gardeners as well as other professionals to keep the home safe and running smoothly for you.

Carol Dyke

At Southlands, we’re continuously striving to push the boundaries of what a good care home should be. As you’d expect of a quality provider, our approach to care is holistic: we pay as much attention to the emotional, spiritual, intellectual and social well-being of our residents as to their practical and physical needs.

But we go a little bit further than that. Our motto ‘Your life, your care, your way!’ isn’t just empty rhetoric; it’s our driving philosophy. Our staff members are hand-picked for their attitude and personality as well as skill sets. They all subscribe to our core belief that individuality matters, and that everyone is innately interesting, enjoyable and useful.

So, while there is inevitably a general and reassuring rhythm to our day, you’ll be encouraged to dance to your own tune. We’ll help you pursue your interests, use your skills and knowledge, and maintain your relationships. We’ll celebrate your experiences and achievements, and we’ll support your choices.

For further information about the services we offer please see our "Key Information" section on our website

Over the years we have consistently received very positive reviews from the families of our residents which reflect our teams ethos of helping residents live life to the full irrespective of their disabilities and frailties. These can be found by clicking the "Reviews " icon on the first page of our website.

Activities Are So Important

Activities range from Live music and art, to puzzles, card and board games and gentle exercise classes. There are also visiting therapy sessions with animal activity, and we’re particularly well known for our lively and enjoyable parties, which we organise (at any opportunity) to celebrate all of the usual occasions, from Christmas and Easter to Shrove Tuesday and Fireworks Night and, of course, birthdays!

We pride ourselves on raising money for good causes, where our residents are set a challenge, this year they cycled from the source of the River Thames in Glouchestershire to the end of the Pier at Southend on Sea in Essex raising over a thousand pounds in our virtual cycle-a-thon for KingsCare Newton Abbot.

Once a month we hold a virtual music concert where there is lots of singing involved, and of course a couple of drinks as well.

Southlands is always a vibrant happy atmosphere, with lots of laughter along the way.
