Meet The Manager

Chris Major is Residential Care Home Manager at Abbeyfield Residential Care Home - Castle Farm.

I have been in post as the Registered Manager of Castle Farm since 2005 and have a further 20 years’ experience in working with older people.
The Abbeyfield ethos and structure allow me to lead a successful and stable staff team, which enables us to provide the highest quality of care. I envisage that I will continue to enjoy my role with Abbeyfield for the foreseeable future.

Our purpose built residential care home is located near to the beautiful Jesmond Dene and is within easy reach of both Gosforth and Jesmond.

Built in 1993 we offer a fully accessible home from home for our 24 residents. All our rooms are equal in size, all are en-suite and all have a view of our beautiful gardens.

Our long standing team of experienced carers, chefs and gardeners are on hand to meet your every need; offering 24 hour care, a range of organised activities, delicious home cooked meals, help and support to maintain relationships outside of the home or simply someone to talk to as often or as little as you like.

We recognise that everybody’s needs and interests differ, so have tailored our home to respect and respond to your privacy and individual requirements. We hold monthly resident meetings and encourage those residents who are interested to contribute their ideas to the day to day running of the home, in terms of activities on offer, menus and food choices and organised excursions out of the home.

Our doors are always open to chat to residents, to visiting families and friends and to anyone starting to think about long term or respite care.

Activities Are So Important

Fulfilment is at the heart of our offer. For some, that can be found by sitting in comfortable surroundings, enjoying the peace and quiet offered by our tranquil gardens; for others it’s heading out on an excursion or taking up a new hobby with friends.

We give residents the option of doing as much or as little as they please, and we encourage them and their families to participate in choosing what it is we offer.

Whether it’s arts and crafts, a spot of gentle exercise or regular outings to local places of interest, participating in the decision-making process allows residents to maintain their independence and interest levels.

Knowing that help is never far away, can raise confidence levels and get residents back to hobbies and pastimes they had perhaps given up on.
