Meet The Manager

Sujamole Mathai is General Manager at Hilton Park Care Centre.

I qualified as a nurse over 25 years ago and worked as a nurse in both acute and community settings. During this time, I was able to lead and inspire a multidisciplinary team to provide outstanding personalized care and find new ways to enrich our residents' lives

Caring for older people has always been very close to my heart, and myself and my team here at Hilton Park are committed to ensure that all of our residents receive the highest quality care at all times.

It is hugely rewarding to be able to support our residents and help them to lead fully enriched lives in their new home. I cannot praise my team enough and it gives me great pleasure to help mentor and develop their nursing careers with Barchester too!

Hilton Park is a beautiful care home in Cambridge and is an integral part of the Hilton Park Care Centre community, which consists of Hilton Park and Oaklands Care Home. The site is located in a rural setting on the outskirts of Cambridge, close to Newmarket, Ely, Granchester and Stansted.

Set in extensive grounds it enjoys a quiet, country feel with well-maintained gardens, an abundance of wildlife and accessible wheelchair pathways to covered seating areas. One of our residents even has an area in the garden to take care of his chickens.

Hilton Park offers nursing care and respite care in a variety of lounges and lovely communal areas, including a beautiful atrium-style dining room located at the very centre of the home. Our newer developments blend seamlessly with the original listed building.

Our team of highly qualified and attentive staff are always focused on the individual needs of residents, with a tailored care plan for each person. The dedication of the whole staff team is reflected in the very high standards of care and in the pleasant, welcoming and hospitable environment.

Those who have benefited from Hilton Park's advanced techniques and professional staff include many with Huntington's disease, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis and dementia-related illnesses. In addition ,we have a dedicated 12-bed mental health unit run by experienced Registered Mental Health Nurses. We can also provide respite, intermediate and palliative care.

Rob Lindsay
Rob Lindsay
Head Chef

Hello I’m Rob, I have been a Chef for 26 years in and around the Cambridge area and have been fortunate to have worked in a wide varieties of kitchens throughout the years. I started cheffing when I was 16 years old as an apprentice in a lovely village pub, gradually progressing to manager -  I stayed for 14 years!

I decided to head into the care sector for a new challenge after working as a relief Chef in children’s Nurseries and Hospitals,  joining the team here at Hilton Park as Head Chef 5 years ago.

Every week still presents myself and my team with new challenges but I would not want it any other way and always thoroughly enjoy preparing delicious food for all of our residents.

We prepare our food freshly on the premises each day using only best ingredients and cater for a wide range of dietary requirements and needs.

The Importance Of Meal Times

Food and Nutrition at our home

Our menus are composed of only the best fresh produce and cooked to the highest quality, with aims for the natural aroma and taste to be retained as best as possible. A great deal of care is taken to accommodate all dietary requirements, and our meals are always prepared with the likes and dislikes of residents taken into consideration. We can guarantee that there is something for everyone on our menu, which you can view below.

Dietary requirements

For residents that have difficulties in swallowing we modify the menu of the day so that is it a soft, palatable dish. To support our chefs in producing these dishes, our hospitality and Chef Academy organises theory and practical workshops. Working in partnership with Nutricia, our practical workshops involve all chefs and deputy managers learning about dysphagia and producing these modified menus. The chefs work with the chef trainer to prepare fork mashable and thick puree meals to the correct consistency, taste and presentation. The deputy managers can then ensure all modified menus served are presented correctly for our residents.

Attracting top chefs

Our chefs are recruited on the basis of an interview with the regional hospitality support team and the manager for the home. Selection also involves a practical element where potential cooks are asked to cook for and meet a panel of people living in the home. Chefs take their job extremely seriously and our annual Chef competition sees our chefs battle it out in regional heats and then at a national final for the accolade of 'Barchester's Chef of the Year'.

Activities Are So Important

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.
