Meet The Manager

Rita Kaur is Care Home Manager at Gledhow.

A current Registered Nurse, Rita has been a Care Home manager for over 10 years with specialist Dementia and Nursing Training.

Rita Kaur

Gledhow provides nursing, dementia, palliative and short-stay care for up to 51 residents in a purpose-built home tucked away in a leafy suburb of Leeds.

Set at the end of a quiet driveway, the home offers a calm and connected setting just 10 minutes from Leeds city centre. Residents benefit from nearby green spaces like Roundhay Park and local amenities on the nearby high street. A bus stop at the bottom of the drive makes visiting simple.

All bedrooms are en-suite and can be personalised with familiar touches. The home includes a sensory room, garden room, salon, and a dedicated pub-style lounge known as The Gledhow Arms. There’s also a dementia café and a strong pastoral presence through the home’s full-time chaplain.

Meals are freshly cooked by a team of three experienced chefs, with input from residents. Popular options include Friday fish and chips, seafood specials, and themed menus. Afternoon teas, birthday cakes, and pub lunches make mealtimes social and memorable.

Daily life includes “Move to Music,” flower arranging, Reading Club, Joyful Noise singalongs, and animal therapy visits. Trips, intergenerational events with local schools, and volunteer-run projects bring colour and community throughout the year.

At Gledhow, care isn’t just about support, it’s about creating a community where residents thrive. Whether you’re searching for yourself or a loved one, for nursing, dementia, palliative or short-stay care, the team at Gledhow are here to help.

Infection control and the safety of both residents and staff often requires quarantine measures and the isolation of care home residents. To test, monitor and allow residents to communicate with relatives, the prevalence of room-level connectivity within the home is becoming increasingly relevant.

Activities Are So Important

The activities co-ordinator provides a full weekly programme - led by residents’ suggestions and wishes - while MHA’s highly trained and caring staff members work hard to ensure the right balance of privacy and company for each individual. Gledhow even has its own minibus to assist residents to get out and about.

Our approach to care is a truly holistic one, always with the aim of nurturing your loved one’s mind, body and spirit.

This comes as part of our promise to you and our residents, to help them to genuinely live a better, more fulfilled life.

It’s about respecting their individual needs, listening and understanding, presenting them with opportunities and daily activities to keep their minds and bodies active.
Whether they flourish in a lively group activity or prefer to re-charge in the peaceful surroundings of one of our quiet spaces, our home is brimming with inspiration and potential.

Enjoying every day
We support everybody’s individual choices, interests and hobbies and our passionate Activity Coordinators love keeping residents active and entertained. They provide a fun-packed and stimulating schedule for people to participate in as they choose.

There’s baking, flower arranging, art and crafts, external entertainers and quizzes just to mention a few of the things we get up to. See our website or key information document for a full list of our regular activities.
