Hi, my name is Beth and I am the General Manager here at Rhiwlas.

I am a registered nurse with a postgraduate diploma in Mental Health Nursing and am passionate about providing the very best care for those we support.

Rhiwlas Care Home in Flint is a purpose-built home that provides high quality residential and 24-hour nursing care in a warm and welcoming environment. Alongside this, we offer respite care and short breaks, which can now be booked up to a year in advance. Our loyal and dedicated team take pride in delivering the highest standard of care and support to each resident.

The high standards of care we offer are reflected throughout the home. For example, our Head Chef creates wonderful menus for residents to enjoy each day, and our team of activities coordinators organise a lively programme of events that promote health and well-being.

We are always happy to offer guidance and answer any questions you may have about our care facilities, so please feel free to call up or, better still, pop in and experience what our beautiful care home has to offer.

I have been a nurse since 2005 and I have previously worked on an acute medical ward as a Deputy Manager. I particularly enjoy caring for the elderly and I love hearing about their life experiences. My nursing career has given me the opportunity to care for people with a variety of conditions. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family and also love reading and gardening.

Cathy Friday

I have worked in many different sectors of administration, but mainly law. Previous to my post at Rhiwlas, I worked in other care homes, and I found them thoroughly enjoyable. I bring a wealth of administration experience to the role, and I enjoy meeting new people. I am love getting to know the residents and their families. In my free time I like to play badminton and walk my dog.

Dawn Butler
Dawn Butler
Activities Coordinator

My name is Dawn Edwards and I have worked at Rhiwlas since 2012. I originally started as a senior carer and held this position in both our residential and nursing communities within the home. Since 2017, I have been the Activities Coordinator, a role that initially started as 2 week's cover, but I found I loved the role so much, that I am still here two and a half years later!

I am a Welsh speaker, originally from the little welsh village, Bethesda, on the edge of Snowdonia, before moving to Flint, where I have lived for over 30 years.

I believe I have the best job in the world, as I get to spend my days with the loveliest people who have a lifetime of experience and memories, and I am passionate that this continues when they come to live at Rhiwlas. It is vital, in my opinion, that we continue to live well and full as we make many new memories and new experiences while we travel down this new road.

The Importance Of Meal Times

Our irresistible cuisine is prepared with only the very best fresh, seasonal produce, and based on the individual tastes of the people we support. Our menu will satisfy even those with the smallest of appetites; from breakfast through to dinner, residents can discover something different with fresh flavour and lovely presentation. Our fantastic chefs are always keeping themselves busy in the kitchen creating new and exciting dishes for everyone to enjoy.

For residents that have difficulties in swallowing we modify the menu of the day so that is it a soft, palatable dish.  To support our chefs in producing these dishes, our hospitality and Chef Academy organises theory and practical workshops.  Working in partnership with Nutricia, our practical workshops involve all chefs and deputy managers learning about dysphagia and producing these modified menus. The chefs work with the chef trainer to prepare fork mashable and thick puree meals to the correct consistency, taste and presentation.  The deputy managers can then ensure all modified menus served are presented correctly for our residents.

Activities Are So Important

Our Activities Coordinators are well-equipped with the knowledge and skills required to meet the needs of those we support, and are instrumental in ensuring that Rhiwlas receives good press coverage, mostly due to our involvement with local schools and churches.

We often arrange parties, social group activities and networking within the community in order to enhance the social lives of residents. Needs are met by residents participating in activities of their choice, including pet therapy, arts and crafts, sensory and music therapy, live entertainment, trips out to theatres, shopping, lunches, football matches and visits to garden centres. We also have a monthly quiz that is run and organised by a resident, and we often have a competition between staff, relatives and residents.

We aim to encourage family and friend participation and support for those who live here on special occasions, such as Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve, anniversaries, birthdays and Valentine’s Day.
