Brendoncare is a registered charity, dedicated to improving the quality of life for older people through our 10 care homes and more than 90 friendship and wellbeing clubs. Brendoncare Park Road, the popular Winchester nursing home, provides nursing care for 40 residents, enabling older people to live independent, happy and fulfilling lives.

Combining warmth and community spirit with professional expertise, the home enables residents to be cared for, secure in the knowledge that their individuality will be respected however frail they may become.

Brendoncare Park Road provides a home where older people can be helped to live as normally as possible and where the emphasis is on quality and enjoyment of life. The staff offer highly skilled nursing care and are proud to do so in an atmosphere where residents can feel they are still in charge of their own lives.

The Brendoncare Care for Life promise ensures that once residents are accepted in one of our homes they will not have to leave due to lack of funds. Care for Life is a charitable third party top-up* payment that can support those residents who may have been with us for a while and whose own funds have depleted to the threshold set by the Local Authority’s Social Services. At that point social services will start to contribute to the cost of care. We fund about 20% of residents in this way so, in order to help with our own financial planning, we ask residents to complete a financial assessment before moving in to one of our homes. For residents and family members the Care for Life promise often provides enormous relief and reassurance.

*Top-up payments are the difference that needs to be ‘topped-up’ between what the public sector will pay and a care home’s full fees. Third party top-up payments are payments made by a third party, such as a family member or a charity, such as Brendoncare, through our Care for Life promise. Social Services will assess and still require residents to make an affordable contribution.

Connectivity for resident testing, monitoring & communications

Infection control and the safety of both residents and staff often requires quarantine measures and the isolation of care home residents. To test, monitor and allow residents to communicate with relatives, the prevalence of room-level connectivity within the home is becoming increasingly relevant.

Description

The philosophy of the home is that residents should be able to make decisions for themselves and choose how to spend their time. There are plenty of opportunities to be sociable but for those who prefer more peace and solitude, their privacy is respected.

Led by an experienced and well-qualified home manager, the staff at Brendoncare Park Road work as a close team and are committed to the Brendoncare philosophy. They make every effort to provide care which promotes privacy and dignity, and to understand each resident's needs and preferences. Registered nurses are always on duty supported by well-trained care assistants, and all the staff receive continuous education and development. Local GPs support the home and visit regularly so that residents can be registered with the doctor of their choice. A chiropodist and physiotherapist attend the home on a regular basis and other services such as hairdressing can always be arranged.

Activities Are So Important

There is always lots going on in our care home: each home is committed to providing a wide range of activities for residents. Equally, we respect people’s need for privacy and quiet, and residents can always choose how they wish to spend their time. The staff aim to provide an atmosphere in which residents can make decisions for themselves and feel at home, while at the same time receiving personal and nursing care of the highest standard.

Brendoncare Park Road has close links with the local community. Its many volunteers are invaluable, organising coffee mornings and social events, running the library service and shopping trolley. Residents are encouraged to continue with previous leisure interests. Social activities include keep fit, arts and crafts, baking, reminiscence, quizzes, games and outings, and we have an Activities Organiser who holds NVQ3 in Care.
