James McElhinney

Our homes are more than just places of care and everyday living support. They’re also thriving communities in which each person feels part of the life of the home. Listening to our residents is one of the most important things we do each day, so that we can truly get to know them. We always pay special attention to people’s stories ─ because places filled with stories and warmth are places that everyone is happy to call home.

You'll find Alexandra Care Home in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire. We are close by to Hemel Hempstead Hospital, and round the corner from public transport, making us easily accessible for visitors to come along and pop-in for a chat.

We provide high-quality care 24 hours a day. We offer nursing care for people with complex medical needs, as well as 24-hour nursing dementia care provided by specialist teams trained in the complexities of looking after those living with dementia, who may also have other long-term medical conditions. We also provide respite care to give home carers a much-needed break, and intermediate care as an alternative to hospital stay.

As one of the leading nursing homes in Hemel Hempstead, we have a garden boasting lovely flower beds and a patio area where residents enjoy relaxing and spending quality time with their loved ones. Inside, residents pursue their hobbies in our communal and quiet lounges. These areas are used for relaxing and socialising in, and are great for inviting friends and families to when they visit.

Description

Our homes are more than just places of care and everyday living support. They’re also thriving communities in which each person feels part of the life of the home. Listening to our residents is one of the most important things we do each day, so that we can truly get to know them. We always pay special attention to people’s stories ─ because places filled with stories and warmth are places that everyone is happy to call home.

We also use exclusive technology to continuously improve residents’ day-to-day experiences through our Quality of Life Programme. As well as medication dosage, dietary needs and mobility, the system also captures residents’ wants, wishes and preferences, alongside feedback from relatives and professionals. This information is immediately available to Home Managers and their teams, complimenting the normal face-to-face conversations we have each day.

We know what we do is important so we work together to bring a little joy to everyday experiences, whilst striving to always be:

Respected

We treat residents and others as we want to be treated, with courtesy and dignity; showing respect in the way we communicate; involving and including people, respecting differences sensitively and professionally.

Trusting

We have a culture of trust. We open our doors, as we are proud of the special experiences we provide to residents. We act with integrity in everything we do.

Caring

We demonstrate our caring nature through our words, actions and choices. It is at the forefront of our hearts and minds. We give confidence and belief to others that we care.

Make a Difference

We go the extra mile, to say or do something special. We notice the little details that makes us all unique. We have pride in ourselves for our own personal development.

The Importance Of Meal Times

Mealtimes are a highlight of our day

There’s nothing quite like traditional home cooking to give everyone a lift.

We always ask residents and their families about their food preferences and dietary requirements. Our chef and catering team then work with dieticians to create meals that are nutritious and tasty, using fresh seasonal ingredients.

To add more variety, we also make a point of celebrating with special meals and events throughout the year. Residents can be served in our pleasant restaurant-style dining rooms or, if they prefer, they can take their meals in the privacy of their own rooms.

Activities Are So Important

Another way we can help our residents to feel at home is for them to do familiar things. So our dedicated Activities Leaders gently encourage residents to carry on doing things they enjoy. If someone had a hobby or pastime they did before they arrived, we’ll encourage them to continue it with us. Or perhaps they may like to learn something new.

The important thing is that we treat every resident as an individual. If they enjoy sharing time with others, either in our home or on an organised trip out, they’re most welcome. Or, if they prefer quiet time alone, we’ll respect that too.
