Meet The Manager

Victoria Read is General Manager at Signature at The Beeches.

I started with Signature in December 2018, and very happy to call The Beeches home.

I have several years’ experience in managing Care and Nursing facilities in London, as well as over 20 years management experience working in the Health, Leisure and Fitness Industry before I made the decision to move in to the Care Sector, which is one of the best decisions I have ever made!  Working in the Leisure industry sounds a million miles away from what I am doing now, however you will be surprised  on how many similarities there are, especially when it comes to ensuring that the care , safety and wellbeing of our Residents, Relatives and staff are at the forefront of the decisions I make in regards to the day to day running of the home.

Description

Person-centred care is at the heart of Signature’s ethos. Everyone has unique qualities and our dedicated staff ensure they provide care that is responsive to individual personal preferences, needs and values. There’s always a familiar face here to help at Signature, someone on whom residents can rely for support whenever required.

Carers at Signature know more than names and faces. They know people’s personalities, their priorities and their preferences. This allows them to provide for each resident’s needs while at all times respecting the privacy and dignity of the individual.

Dementia care can be a difficult and emotional decision for residents and their families. At Signature, we are committed to providing the unique and highly skilled care that those living with memory loss require, in order to maintain a fulfilling, safe and dignified lifestyle.

We offer dedicated dementia suites that have specialist features to support with the provision of exceptional care within a dignified and comforting environment for each resident. Using research from the University of Stirling, the UK’s leading dementia specialist researcher, Signature has designed its environments to be market-leading.

Respite care and convalescent care is short term care designed to help people recover from an operation or illness with the support of our superb care staff and facilities. Respite stays are a minimum of two weeks and can last up to a few months. Individual care plans are tailored to each resident’s requirements to help them recover as soon as possible.

Signature offers award-winning care in purpose-built, luxury surroundings, which provide the resident with the best chance of full recovery. Many of our respite residents enjoy their stay so much that they decide to remain with us after their recovery.

Care Services Manager

I qualified as a Registered Nurse in 1986 from St Bartholomew’s Hospital, London.  I spent 24 years in high profile private healthcare units, within 2 large acute London Hospital Trusts gaining experience from ward manager to senior nurse before going into operational management.

As our Care Service Manager, I am a knowledgeable, caring and dynamic team member at The Beeches.  I am truly proud to be part of an organisation such as Signature, which embeds such key areas of quality and dedicated care into the lives of our residents and their families. This is why I joined the nursing profession and now I am able to really make a difference at such important, sensitive and private times in people’s lives and to offer support, direction and information to all members of the care team. It is a real privilege to be part of the team here at The Beeches.

Jana Krapkova

Dementia Care Manager

After finishing a Business Course in the Czech Republic, I started as a carer, looking after people with mental health problems. When I moved to England, in 2007, I originally worked as a carer in a home near Watford. At the time, my manager offered me the position of Senior Carer/Training Co-ordinator in Romford, so I relocated to Essex. I was looking after young, physically disabled people. I found my passion for palliative care as we worked closely with St Francis Hospice. Years later I was promoted to Home Based Trainer and provided mandatory training to all staff. I had the opportunity to travel around different homes in the area and study a course provided by Bradford University: “Person First, Dementia Second”. After that, I knew I had to go back into care. I have been at The Beeches since October 2015. I started as a Lead Carer and have now worked my way up as a Dementia Care Manager.

Katy Marling
Katy Marling
Nursing Care Manager

I began my career in healthcare 10 years ago, where I started as a care assistant in a respiratory ward.
I was lucky enough to be sponsored to complete my Registered Nurse training, and I did so through London Southbank University. My favourite part of my training was being on placement in various settings within healthcare – I was lucky enough to have placements ranging from Obstetrics to Oncology.

It was during these placements that I really found my passion for Nursing – Palliative and End of Life Care. Once I had qualified I went to work at a Hospice, where I worked up the ladder until I became a Community Clinical Nurse Specialist in Palliative Care.

I have now been at The Beeches since November 2018, and have settled into my new role well. This has been possible with the guidance and support from my new colleagues, and also from the residents, who I feel very privileged to be around every day.

Client Liaison Manager

I am proud to be the Client Liaison Manager at The Beeches as it allows me to meet with residents and families who are looking at care plan choices for either themselves or a loved one, providing advice and guidance at what can be a very challenging and emotional time.

I am always proud to invite people to show around our lovely community at The Beeches which allows them to see for themselves how our residents’ lives are enhanced with the care and support each person receives. I find it remarkably rewarding to see our new residents settle into their new lifestyle in our stunning environment and I am very proud to be part of a fantastic and dedicated team

Move in Coordinator

I was born in Slovenia, where I studied Political science – defence studies. I moved to England at the end of 2017 to start a family, I was very fortunate to find a job at The Beeches.
I started as a receptionist, where I got to know the residents and their family. I quickly realised that I wanted to do more, and really felt like the role of move-in coordinator could be the right thing for me. I love interacting with people and make them feel as welcome and comfortable as they should be.

Augusta Udo

Activities Manager

I joined The Beeches in the year 2013, and feel honoured to be part of a caring and dedicated team.
I have experience in banking, retail and health care sector. I am fondly referred to as Charity by my children and Aggie or Agatha by our residents. Whilst those in management would say I’m a softy and competitive my team would call me a ‘Boss’ as a result of having a strong desire to achieve success.  As for me, I am forever smiling because every day is a bonus. There is no greater joy than when I transform someone’s state of mind and lift their spirits to show them that I care.

As Restaurant Manager, I make sure that not only are our residents well fed but that the dining experience is top quality and thoroughly enjoyable one for our residents and their guests. The Importance Of Meal Times

At Signature, we take great care to ensure that our food is prepared using the highest quality ingredients to ensure a well-balanced and nutritious diet for all our residents. Our food is made by professionally trained chefs and the delicious menus are inspired by Jane Devonshire, MasterChef 2016 winner.

We take pride in producing healthy, appetising food that provides good nutrition and hydration essential to wellness and the physical and mental well-being of our residents. All our meals are freshly prepared, packed full of flavour and include all the seasonal favourites. In addition to our dining times residents can enjoy a range of lighter meals and snacks throughout the day. We have well-stocked cafés serving speciality teas, freshly ground coffee, flavoured water, fruit juices, homemade cakes and light snacks.

Our café areas provide the perfect environment for family visits as well as socialising with other residents and guests. We make sure that we cater to individual dietary needs and recognise personal preferences and we do all we can to ensure that our residents enjoy their dining experience with Signature. Our homes are fully licensed and stock a great selection of wines, beers and spirits for residents, their guests and visitors to enjoy.

Across all Signature homes we offer choice and variety so that residents fully enjoy their dining experience. Whether you prefer a formal or informal environment, you can choose from a range of options including the formal restaurant areas that offer silver service, informal bistros for a more casual dining experience, café areas near the main entrances for coffee, light bites and snacks. Each home has a private dining room so that residents can enjoy special occasions with family and friends. We even offer alfresco dining on our pretty sun terraces for those long lazy summer days.

Our chefs offer fresh, seasonal menus that change daily for lunch and dinner. Each menu lists all allergies and we cater for all dietary requirements. Whether it be vegetarian, pescatarian or even vegan, at Signature we go above and beyond to make sure our residents’ tastes and needs are met, and they are well looked after. When a new resident joins a Signature home, we make every effort to learn what the resident likes and do all that we can to meet their tastes and preferences.

Every Signature home offers a stylish private dining facility for residents to enjoy with their family and friends. Celebrating happy times, such as birthdays or anniversaries is a lovely way to enjoy the facilities. By request, a special menu can be designed by our head chefs and all our homes are fully licensed offering a great wine list to add to the occasion.

Activities Are So Important

Every signature home has a dedicated activities team organised by an activities manager. With extensive weekly activity calendars, there is always plenty to choose from, whatever a resident’s mobility level. Activities inside our homes include ballroom dancing, board games, guest musicians and speakers and of course our ever-popular bridge tournaments. We also organise regular outings, from theatre and cinema trips to nature walks, shopping trips and church services. Many of our homes also have gardening areas and potting sheds, where green-fingered residents can tend their own plot.

The wellbeing of our residents is always our main concern, and Signature life is designed to provide a full spectrum of physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. Regular exercise classes for all abilities, physiotherapy treatments in our specialist therapy rooms, and country trips are just some of the activities by which Signature maintains physical wellbeing. Stimulating activities such as crossword challenges, quiz nights and foreign language classes offer a great range of options for mental wellbeing. The sense of community and companionship offered by all of our social areas and communal activities offers emotional wellbeing that would not usually be available outside the Signature family.
