Amanda Tanner

Shinfield View is a care home that often does things differently. We always strive to improve, to offer more varied activities or a different approach to visiting and inclusion. We encourage all staff to think of new ways to make sure our home is better in every regard, and so our residents receive companionship, stimulation and great value. For a long time, care homes have trodden a certain path, and while many of them deliver good basic care, the rest often gets forgotten in a bid to keep costs down. By 'the rest' we mean the food, the gardens, the activities and the staffing levels.

Living at Shinfield View is not just about receiving great care but about enjoying the things in life that you have always enjoyed, in beautiful surroundings and with a team of people who are passionate about what they do each day. By aiming for excellence in every area, we strive to make living in a care home a fantastic life experience.

Our Building and Facilities

Shinfield View features its own cinema room where residents can relax, a fully-stocked bar and bistro area, library, private dining room, spa, hairdressing salon and landscaped gardens. The home sits just across from the village green, where family-friendly events take place throughout the year.

We have a full-time events manager who organises activities and events for all residents to enjoy, while the home has its own chauffeur driven vehicle for use on days out and special occasions.

Our outdoor areas are all landscaped and will become a vibrant display of colour in the spring and summer. If you fancy adding to the beauty then carry on! It's your own garden so why not join our gardening club and help shape the look for everyone to enjoy? When the weather is right, outdoor dining and entertainment is top of the list of activities. We have also added a sun terrace to our first floor so that you can quickly grab every ray of sun, no matter how small!

The pricing policy is all-inclusive - a single weekly fee covers all care, all facilities and all events. This includes the bar and bistro, fine dining, hair salon and entertainment. It may sound too good to be true, but it’s just Shinfield View!

Description

We have decided to take the lead within the care sector which is why we pay all of our staff above the living wage. Not the minimum wage, not the living wage, above the living wage. The results of doing this are that we have a care team who know they are respected and valued, and we are able to attract the best people in the business to our home. Everybody wins, but most of all our residents.

"The training we have, I feel, goes above and beyond to ensure that we are able to provide the best care and also that we are knowledgeable about the conditions that some residents live with."

"Working for this company is the best job I ever had. Our residents are at the heart of everything we do, and I feel every member of our team genuinely cares for each and every resident."

"I always had an idea of how older people should live and this is definitely it. The company give us the right tools and budget to do amazing things for our residents. I couldn't be happier."

"The morale, the training, the support, the staff and the residents are all outstanding in my opinion."

The Importance Of Meal Times

Food should be enjoyed however you want to. We have listened and thought long and hard about what our residents like to eat and how they like meals to be served. We found that food and the social aspect surrounding it is something that most people hold dear; it evokes memories of different eras in one's life, various people, and celebration. We think that in itself is something worth savouring.

We have created lovely welcoming spaces within Shinfield View for meals and snacks - variety is the order of the day. There is the main bar and bistro, thoughtfully divided up into areas where people can enjoy a meal together, and places where couples, individuals and small groups can easily congregate to chat and relax over coffee and biscuits.

The jewel in the crown for the foodies among you will be the fine dining room. Our residents are welcome to invite their families into the home for dinner, a special birthday, or just because they feel like it.

That's what sets this care home apart from the others – attention to the real desires of the individual. When we say that we want our residents to treat Shinfield View as their home, we mean it. Having space to invite your friends round in turn makes visiting hours longer, more relaxed, more enjoyable.

Activities Are So Important

The success of our care home is the happiness of our residents, many of whom will already be local to the area of Shinfield. We want our home to be as much a part of the community as the local school, shop and pub are, and we want our residents and staff to be involved as much as possible. How can we achieve this?

We visited Shinfield Rangers Football Club and Three Mile Cross Bowling Club to find out. Both clubs were incredibly welcoming and we are delighted to be able to help each of them with sponsorship for the coming year. We wish all teams involved the best of luck and we look forward to visiting some games.

We are always looking for new and different activities for our residents to enjoy; trips out, entertainment in the home, demonstrations and interesting talks.
