Florence Clarke is Care Home Manager at Princess Louise Kensington Nursing Home.

Princess Louise of Kensington is a bright and airy home situated in the Notting Hill Gate area of London.

Located in a trendy and vibrant area with lots of shops and restaurants, the home is close to Latimer Road tube station, on the Hammersmith & City and Circle lines.

The care home has been designed with welcoming lounge and dining rooms and cosy bedrooms, which provide a warm place for our residents to rest and relax.

The home’s dedicated team provides a range of care and support for our residents, including nursing care, dementia care, palliative care, as well as respite care.

We welcome visits from family and friends and have an open door policy, so whether loved ones like to pop in for a coffee or take part in an activity, we encourage them to become part of the community within our home.

Our Building and Facilities

The home has cosy lounges, which are the perfect setting for residents to unwind and enjoy a good book or spend time with their visitors.

Princess Louise also has an activities room, which acts as the hub of the nursing home – almost like our very own social centre.

We even have our very own sensory room, where residents can relax while enjoying a multi-sensory experience. The room is complete with comfortable seating, optic lights, with tranquil music playing.

Finally, we have a very large garden which includes a water feature, sensory planting and even has raised flower beds and a greenhouse. Our residents, many of whom enjoy gardening, love to sow seeds or tend to the flowers and plants, thanks to the easy reach beds. During the warmer months, they relax in the seating areas and admire the gardens.

Our team pride themselves on creating a welcoming and homely family environment and do everything we can to make the transition to Princess Louise as smooth as possible for our residents and those closest to them.

The team cares for our residents as if they were members of our own family, providing round-the- clock nursing care, dementia care, palliative care and respite care.

The kind and caring nature of the staff was something that was praised in the home’s most recent Care Quality Commission (CQC) report from the care and health sector watchdog. We were rated an overall Good in the unannounced inspection, with the areas of safety, care, responsiveness and leadership all praised.

The staff were really proud to read the glowing quotes and extracts from our residents and loved ones in the report. We set out every day to make sure our residents are well cared for, happy and safe and this is testament to all their hard work.

The Importance Of Meal Times

At Sanctuary Care we recognise meal times have always been a focus for residents in our homes which is why we invest in fantastic chefs and catering staff who can deliver delicious, nutritious menus and create an enjoyable dining experience for our residents. Some of our residents enjoy getting involved in the preparation and serving of food! You can read more about this in our case studies.

Cooked or continental? Sandwiches or hot food? The choice is yours with residents being involved in creating seasonal nutritional menus from old favourites to trying something new…there’s also always freshly baked cakes to enjoy for afternoon tea.

Midnight snack? No problem, refreshments are available to residents throughout the day and evening if they get a little peckish.

We encourage meal-times where residents can eat together and socialise in a relaxing environment but understand that residents may wish to enjoy food when they and where choose to have it.

Our trained staff understand the importance of eating well and staying hydrated and supporting residents living with dementia to enjoy food in their environment – making food more visible through coloured crockery and more appealing whether it's pureed, finger foods or moulded.
